Project Description
The intersection of the southbound ramps from I-5 with Fairhaven Parkway in Bellingham is experiencing increased congestion. This project will improve safety by reducing traffic conflicts that are occurring at this intersection. The traffic problems will be improved by adding a signal for the southbound ramps, installing another turn lane on the southbound off ramp, and modifying the 32nd Street access connection with Fairhaven Parkway.

The construction project was awarded to Wilder Construction Company on March 27, 2006 for $1,319,5000 dollars.

Recent Progress
The City of Bellingham contract work 99% completed, including installing a large detention vault under 30th St, reconstructing Donovan and 30th St., sidewalks ,and illumination bases. Luminaire poles on Donovan can be installed now that the utility relocation have been completed. The illumination system on Donovan is scheduled to be tuned on by the end of April 07. WSDOT contract work was completed December 06 with the turning on of the new signal at I-5 and Fairhaven.

Design Construction Impacts
Access to and from Fairhaven from 32nd street will be permanently closed starting July 27. Donovan and 30th street were reconstructed to mitigate for the closure of 32nd street.

There will be adherence to permit requirements.

Impacts to Traffic
Expect up to 15 minute traffic blockage for luminaire erection on 30th street for the third week of April.
