I-5 - Roanoke Vicinity Noise Walls (Stage 1 and 2)

Project Description
The project will build noise walls to reduce existing freeway-generated noise along I-5 in the Roanoke vicinity. The project is funded to complete design and construction.

Stage 2 – Wilder Construction; Stage 3 – Perteet Engineering, Inc. and EnviroIssues

Recent Progress
 

Stage 1 and 2 Construction:
Completed installation of noisewalls 

Stage 3 Preliminary Engineering:
Preliminary Engineering work is 90% complete.
A community information session was held in August to share information about the wall locations, designs and landscaping options. WSDOT is working with SDOT to maintain pedestrian access on the sidewalk adjacent to the noise wall location. All information presented at the information session is available on the Website. Design and plan preparation efforts are continuing.

The Stage 3 noise wall project is scheduled to be advertised for construction bids in the spring of 2008.

Design Construction Impacts

Stage 1 and 2:
Construction is complete.

Stage 3: 
Construction work is expected to begin in late spring of 2008.  Lane restrictions and some modifications to local street traffic can be expected throughout the construction period.  Details of these impacts will be finalized as plan preparation is completed.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
 Stage 1 and 2:
Construction complete.

Stage 3:
Environmental documentation has been cleared. Noise Variance and Street Use permit requests have been submitted to the City of Seattle.

Impacts to Traffic
There will be street and lane closures on location streets during construction. Metro service may be impacted temporarily. Street parking will be temporally prohibited to accommodate construction and movement of traffic.

Finish Construction Stage 2 June 2006  Spring 2006 Stage 2 Noise Wall construction is complete.Landscaping was completed in Spring 2007.
Start Stage 3 Design Engineering January 2006  January 2006 Engineering on the Stage 3 project began in January 2006 and will be completed by April 2008.
Start Stage 3 Construction Spring 2008   Construction on the Stage 3 project is now scheduled to begin in the Spring of 2008.
Finish Stage 3 Construction Late Spring 2009   Major construction of the noise walls on the Stage 3 project is now scheduled to be completed in the late spring of 2009.  Landscape maintanance will continue for another two years.
