I-5 - Roanoke Vicinity Noise Wall Project - Complete June 2009

Quarterly Project Report Update for Quarter Ending December 2003

Project Title & Location

I-5 Roanoke Vicinity Noise Wall Project -  Seattle

Project Description
The project will build noise walls to reduce existing freeway-generated noise along I-5 in the Roanoke vicinity. The project is funded to complete design and construction.

Contractor/Consultant
Project not yet advertised or awarded.

Recent Progress

Nickel funding began in July 2003.  The project will construct new noise walls in the vicinity of Roanoke Street in Seattle.  The Legislature funded this project for construction only under the assumption that design plan had been completed.   The budget plan and project schedule have been revised to include design phase.  Contract Advertisement will be in early summer 2004 and construction will begin in late summer 2004.  With the total budget of $3.5M, it is determined that the funding is not enough to construct all the noise walls stated in the Project Definition Summary and Statewide Noise Barrier Retrofit Ranking.  Trade-offs will be made with the communities.  Public outreach events were held in November and December 2003.  Noise Analysis, Geotechnical Investigation, and Structural Analysis have been completed.  Several preliminary noise wall concepts were presented during public outreach events.  For a full description of the project, please visit the project web page: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/I5RoanokeNoiseWall

Design Construction Impacts

A final design will be developed by Spring 2004.  Construction impacts will be determined during the final design.  Construction is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2004 and finished by summer 2005.  The work remains within scope and budget.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance

Environmental documentation is underway and on schedule.  The project will reduce existing freeway-generated noise along I-5 in the Roanoke vicinity.  No other permanent environmental impacts have been identified.

Impacts to Traffic

No permanent changes to traffic patterns are anticipated.  Short-term impacts are not yet fully determined.
