Recent Progress

Last quarter WSDOT and Clark County proposed to break the project into two phases.  WSDOT requested $20 Million for cost escalation and scope changes for phase one.  Phase one will include the work related to the interstate system, excluding the I-205 interchange at NE 134th Street.  This proposal is included in the 2007-2009 budget request.

Construction of phase one will begin in 2009 if permits are acquired, design is finalized, and the county has completed the financing plan.

Design Construction Impacts
It is too early in the project to determine the magnitude of these impacts.  Mitigation for the budget and scope issues may require some redesign.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance

The Environmental Assessment and impact study for this project will detail the project's direct and indirect environmental impacts (natural, ecological, societal and economic) in order to guide final design and construction.  This project may provide an opportunity to improve wetland habitat and storm water runoff in the project area.

The EA is on schedule and the draft discipline reports were be distributed for review in September 2005.  Changes to address the scope and budget issues listed above could require modifications to the discipline reports.

Impacts to Traffic
There will be impacts to traffic during construction, which will be determined as the project develops.
