Reconstruct I-5 Interchange at NE 134th Street and NE 139th Street

Project Description
Reconstructs the NE 134th Street interchange at the junction of I-5 and I-205. The improvement is needed to maintain safety on I-5 and I-205 and to keep traffic moving at acceptable levels through the interchange area. It includes construction of a supplemental interchange and I-5 crossing at NE 139th Street.

Recent Progress

The project has been broken into two stages.  Stage one will include the work related to the interstate system, and includes a new bridge over I-5 at 139th Street. Stage two will make improvements at NE 134th Street and improve access to I-205.

Construction of stage one will begin in 2009 if permits are acquired, design is finalized, and the county has completed the financing plan.  A CEVP has been conducted with a final report scheduled for Spring 2007.

Design Construction Impacts
The project team is determining the optimal project phasing plan to fit the project financial plan.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance

The Environmental Assessment and impact study for this project will detail the project's direct and indirect environmental impacts (natural, ecological, societal and economic) in order to guide final design and construction.  This project may provide an opportunity to improve wetland habitat and storm water runoff in the project area.

The EA is on schedule and the draft discipline reports are currently under review.

There will be impacts to traffic during construction, which will be determined as the project develops.
