Reconstruct I-5 Interchange at NE 134th Street and NE 139th Street

Project Description
Reconstructs the NE 134th Street interchange at the junction of I-5 and I-205. The improvement is needed to maintain safety on I-5 and I-205 and to keep traffic moving at acceptable levels through the interchange area. It includes construction of a supplemental interchange and I-5 crossing at NE 139th Street.

Recent Progress

The joint WSDOT/Clark County project team is currently analyzing multiple design alternatives to determine which will be carried forward into the Environmental Assessment (EA).

WSDOT will select an EA consultant shortly, with completion scheduled for December 2005. Concurrently, a new Access Point Decision Report will be completed that will address recent changes to the project's conceptual design and replace the original report completed in February of 2002.

The project team is continuing to negotiate the purchase of undeveloped property to reduce project risk and help ensure a successful project.

Design Construction Impacts
It is too early in the project to determine the magnitude of these impacts.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance

The necessary environmental impact study for this project will detail the project's direct and indirect environmental impacts (natural, ecological, societal and economic) in order to guide final design and construction.  This project may provide an opportunity to improve wetland habitat and storm water runoff in the project area.

There will be significant impacts to traffic which will be determined as the project develops.
