Quarterly Project Report Update for Quarter Ending March 2004

Project Title & Location
I-5/Pierce County Line to Tukwila – Stage 4, on I-5 in Milton and Federal Way, in south King County.

Project Description
This Project widens I-5 to provide northbound and southbound HOV lanes and ITS from the Pierce County Line to South 320th Street.

Contractor/Consultant
Consultant - Huitt-Zollars

Recent Progress

Updating plans and specifications to conform to current plans preparation manual standards.  Environmental documentation is complete and has received concurrence from federal resource agencies.  Bridge redesign is getting under way.  We will have a 60% Plans review in April.

Design Construction Impacts

Current assessment indicates that no additional right-of-way will be needed. King County has expressed interest in modifying the planned storm water pond northeast  of I-5 and State Route 161 to function as a flood control facility.

 

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
Project will comply with current environmental standards.  Environmental Documentation complete.  Environmental office working with the cities of Federal Way and Milton to secure buffer zone mitigation site.

Impacts to Traffic
Estimated traffic impacts during construction will add 15 minutes to northbound trips and 15 minutes to southbound trips.  High traffic impact work will be scheduled to be done at night.

Conversion to English Units July 2004 Started to convert contract to English units on 8/04/03.
Contract Advertised October 2004 Advertising date has been advanced by six months.
