Quarterly Project Report Update for Quarter Ending December 2003

Project Title & Location
I-5/Pierce County Line to Tukwila – Stage 4, on I-5 in Milton and Federal Way, in south King County.

Project Description
This Project widens I-5 to provide northbound and southbound HOV lanes and ITS from the Pierce County Line to South 320th Street.

Recent Progress

Wetland assessment and BA have been submitted for review by NW Region Environmental staff.  Existing sign inventory is complete. Updating plans and specifications to conform to current plans preparation manual standards.

Design Construction Impacts

Current assessment indicates that no additional right-of-way will be needed. King County has expressed interest in modifying the planned storm water pond northeast  of I-5 and State Route 161 to function as a flood control facility.

WSDOT Bridge Office has requested to add a bridge deck overlav for Bridge 5/511W and NW Region Program Management is reviewing this request.  State Route 18 and I-5 interchange ramps are due for overlay.  This work is also being considered for inclusion in this contract.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
Preparing application for hydraulic permit, Corps of Engineers, and Department of Ecology water quality permits.  Project will comply with current environmental standards.

Impacts to Traffic
Estimated traffic impacts during construction will add 15 minutes to northbound trips and 15 minutes to southbound trips.  High traffic impact work will be scheduled to be done at night.

Project Milestones Scheduled Attained Milestone Outlook
Drainage Redesign March 2004 Bore logs have been completed at the proposed pond sites.  Ground water table is being monitered  and high water table at some pond sites will be addressed in the design. 
Design File Completion May 2004 No issues at this time.
Conversion to English Units July 2004 Started to convert contract to English units on 8/04/03.
Contract Advertised October 2004 Advertising date has been advanced by six months.
