Over the weekend of Sept. 19, crews will complete permanent repairs to a bridge expansion joint on Interstate 5 in the Olympia and Tumwater area. The work area includes both northbound and southbound I-5 near US 101. Motorists are strongly encouraged to avoid I-5 through Olympia during the weekend of Sept. 19, as the necessary lane and ramp closures could cause heavy traffic congestion.
During the months of August and early September, crews are also repaving sections of I-5 in Thurston and Pierce counties.
In Thurston County, this project repaved Interstate 5 in the northbound two right lanes from milepost 101.23 to 102.5, and the southbound two right lanes from milepost 101.23 to 106.1, and the southbound ramps at Tumwater Blvd.
In Pierce County, this project repaves Interstate 5 in the southbound two right lanes from milepost 116.72 to 124.21, the southbound auxiliary lane from milepost 118.36 to 118.69, and the southbound ramps at Center Drive.
