I-5 - Vicinity Tumwater Blvd to Gravelly Lake Dr - Paving - Lane and Ramp Closures

Details on I-5 and US 101 lane and ramp closures in Olympia*

Update 6 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 21:  All work is complete on northbound I-5 lanes and ramps and they have reopened a day early!  Southbound I-5 remains restricted to two lanes during the day and one lane at night through 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21. The Henderson/14th on-ramp to southbound I-5 also remains closed around the clock until Monday morning.

This over-simplified graphic shows how the lane and ramp closures will occur over the weekend of Sept. 19 (with Sept. 26 as a back-up weekend) while crews replace a bridge expansion joint.  The gray areas represent closed lanes and ramps. The orange arrows and dots represent lane shifts. The locations listed below (G, H, I, J, etc.) give specific closure details.

WSDOT would like to thank drivers for heeding our advice to avoid I-5 over the weekend of Sept. 12. We saw traffic reductions of up to 50%, leading to earlier lane closures (with no backups!), earlier work completion and earlier reopening of northbound I-5 lanes. Way to go!

This graphic only shows daytime lane and ramp closures. At night, I-5 near Capitol Lake will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
