I-5: Traffic is moving smoothly through the construction zone in all five northbound lanes that
re-opened to traffic this morning at 5:45 a.m.
A big thank you to all the drivers who helped out during this construction.
“I have been hearing the stories coming out of this project and what I find most gratifying is that Puget Sound drivers were willing to do something different for a couple weeks to help us get through this," said WSDOT Interim Secretary of Transportation Paula Hammond.
Next steps: crews will work overnights next week to place permanent lane lines through the construction zone. There will also be overnight lane closures in the coming weeks both northbound and southbound to wrap up repairs. All of the work on this project should be done by November.

All lanes and ramps on northbound I-5 through Seattle are
now open. Crews completed major construction work five days faster than expected.
For 14 days, from Aug. 10-25, construction crews swarmed I-5 to break apart old concrete and pull out 40-year-old expansion joints. They installed 34 new expansion joints and paved 1.13 miles of northbound I-5 between Spokane St. and I-90 with durable polyester concrete, which will extend the life of I-5 by another 30 years.
Next steps: crews will work overnights to finish paving and expansion joint work on both southbound and northbound I-5 south of downtown Seattle. All of the work on this project should be done by November.
