Weekend lane closures on the Ship Canal Bridge
We have a busy weekend of roadwork scheduled on Interstate 5 and State Route 99 in Seattle - including the Ship Canal Bridge where crews will do routine maintenance work.
Workers will need to close lanes on the bridge during the work. Drivers should allow extra time and plan for the following closures:
- Saturday, Oct. 3 – The right lane on the northbound upper deck will be closed from sunrise to 9 a.m. The right lane of the southbound upper deck will be closed from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
- Sunday, Oct. 4 – The right lane on the northbound upper deck will be closed from sunrise to 10 a.m.
For the most up to date information about the closures check out our What’s Happening Right Now page.
Learn more about how traffic noise travels from the bridge
Traffic noise is a concern for communities that live near freeways. If you live near or have ever walked beneath the Ship Canal Bridge in Seattle, you know how loud the traffic noise can be.
Last spring, we hosted two informal meetings in Eastlake to talk to you about our upcoming noise study to reduce some of the traffic noise that reflects and bounces from the structure.
We shared with neighbors the different types of highway noises and how that noise reaches nearby residents. If you are interested in learning more about what we shared and seeing a video of how noise bounces off the bridge, visit our project Web site.
