Here is a photo of an I-5 interchange ramp after WSDOT retrofitted the columns. The improved columns will help keep the bridge ramp safe during an earthquake.


Crews excavate 30 feet deep into the ground to pour a concrete base for the columns. 




After the concrete base is poured, crews begin to install steel jackets along the entire length of the column. Here is a photo of a column with half of its steel jacket installed.




Crews finish installing a steel jacket to strengthen a support column on the Corson Avenue/Michigan Street on-ramp bridge.




Here is a series of completed and partially completed columns supporting the ramps from I-5 south to the West Seattle Freeway and Columbia Way. Tully's is to the right of the photo (out of view).



Here are a series of catcher blocks supporting the I-5/Corson Avenue off-ramp in Georgetown. Catcher blocks help stabilize the bridge from moving side-to-side during an earthquake.
