WSDOT made safety improvements to the I-5 reversible ramp to and from the express lanes and SR 522 (Lake City Way). This ramp is the most heavily used in the I-5 express lanes system, carrying 30 percent of express lane traffic each morning.
Crews repaved the reversible express lane ramp, which was cracked in many areas. Crews also replaced damaged guardrail.
The new pavement is expected to increase vehicle traction, and new signs and guardrail are expected to improve safety.
Partnerships & Cooperation
WSDOT awarded this project to Peterson Brothers in December 2009. The project, which required the closure of the ramp on two consecutive weekends, was completed in July 2010.
