I-5 - SR 16 Realignment - HOV Structure and Connections - Project Map

Project Map
To increase safety, improve mobility and reduce congestion, WSDOT is rebuilding the entire I-5/SR 16 Nalley Valley interchange. The HOV Connector project will build new bridge structures and direct-access ramps to connect I-5 HOV lanes to SR 16 HOV lanes.

South Tacoma Way Detour
In late March, contractor crews will install 9 girders, safety deck and overhangs on the new SR 16 HOV structure that will connect with I-5 HOV lanes. This work will require closing South Tacoma Way between S. Pine Street and S. Wilkeson Street during overnight hours. During the closures, local access will be allowed on South Tacoma Way between S. Sprague Avenue and S. Pine Street. South Tacoma Way will reopen during daytime hours. The work is expected to take about a week, but could be extended due to weather conditions.

Closure hours:

  • 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Sunday -Thursday
  • 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. Friday
  • 11 p.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday
