Overview
A tractor-trailer towing an overheight piece of construction equipment hit and damaged the SR 11 overpass July 10, 2008. Crews made emergency repairs to stabilize the bridge and reopen it to traffic. This project permanently repaired the bridge by replacing the damaged area.
The overpass was closed from January 26 to March 30, 2009, so crews could remove and replace the damaged portion of the bridge.
 | Improves Safety
Crews rebuilt the eastern portion of the overpass with stronger, wider concrete girders, increasing the height clearance over northbound I-5 by 6 inches – the clearance is now 15 feet 9 inches.
|
 | Relieves Congestion
The bridge was damaged badly enough that it had to have weight restrictions placed on it. The replaced portion of the bridge allows large commercial vehicles to resume travel over the bridge.
