Sept. 2004 - Crews built the first S. 317th bridge support on the west side of I-5.Oct. 2004 - Southbound I-5 traffic was shifted onto a temporary roadway in the median. This allowed crews to build retaining walls and supports for the S. 317th bridge on the west side of the freeway, next to the permanent southbound lanes.Feb. 2005 - Crews set four 100-ton concrete girders in one night for the new S. 317th bridge.March 2005 - We improved existing northbound and southbound I-5 pavement using the dowel bar retrofit technique. Dowel bars are inserted into slots cut in the pavement. The bars link the concrete panels and prevent the panels from rubbing against each other and becoming worn. April 2005 - Crews installed steel for the bridge deck widening on the northbound I-5 bridge over Military Road. We widened this bridge to accommodate the extension of the HOV lane to S. 320th.April 2005 - Crews ground the pavement on northbound and southbound I-5 with diamond-tipped saw blades. The right side of this photo shows what the pavement looks like after grinding. This is a safety improvement, as it removes ruts and improves traction. May 2005 - Crews poured concrete for the deck of the new S. 317th bridge. July 2005 - We finished replacing southbound I-5 pavement between Military Road and S. 320th and shifted traffic off the temporary median roadway.Sept. 2005 - Crews built a roundabout at the intersection of S. 317th and 28th Ave. S.October 2005 - Crews installed barrier on the new HOV on and off-ramps in the median. The S. 317th bridge is visible to the upper left in this photo.Nov. 2005 - Crews built the connections between the HOV ramps and the S. 317th bridge.Jan. 2006 - Crews placed button pavement markers on the newly-striped HOV ramps.Feb. 2006 - The new northbound HOV lane and exit ramp at S. 317th, just before crews moved the barrels and opened the interchange to traffic.
