I-5/Rush Road to 13th Street - Chehalis

Project Description
Improves freight mobility, economic development and safety by adding one lane in each direction from Rush Road to 13th Street and constructing an interchange at LaBree Road. There are currently four lanes (two in each direction). There will be six lanes when this project is completed.

Contractor/Consultant
The contract was awarded to Scarsella Brothers, Inc. on May 22, 2007.

Recent Progress
Scarsella Brothers Inc. have completed the paving along the Interstate, and now are focusing on completing the illumination and signing. The La Bree Interchange structure has been completed and the contractor is working on completing the remaining items of work.
Work is being suspended for the winter due to environmental concerns.

Design Construction Impacts
The contractor is working toward the opening of the third Interstate lane the work remaining is weather dependent. The public should still expect flaggers on the County Roads as the work there is being completed.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
The North Fork Newaukum wetland bank credits will be used to mitigate wetland impacts. The project is continually focused on temporary erosion control measures.

Impacts to Traffic
Construction is being staged thru an aggressive public awareness campaign to minimize traffic impacts. I-5 may be restricted to one lane, each direction at night while staging is completed. Two lanes will be open in each direction during the daytime and at night as staging allows.
