I-5 - Mellen Street to Grand Mound

 

Project Description
This project will widen seven miles of I-5 between Mellen Street in Lewis County and the Grand Mound interchange in Thurston County to increase traffic flow and safety. The project will be constructed in three stages- Stage 1: Blakeslee Junction to Grand Mound, Stage 2: Mellen Street to Blakeslee Junction, and Stage 3: Mellen Street Improvements.

Recent Progress
The project team is progressing steadily toward a target construction date of Spring 2009 for the first stage of this project - widening I-5 from 4 lanes to 6 lanes between Grand Mound and Blakeslee Junction.
Design is 30 % complete and the team is working on right-of-way plans.

Design Construction Impacts
Close coordination of construction staging is needed with the Grand Mound to Maytown project.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
The project team is working towards a target NEPA approval in 2008..  Stormwater treatment will require off-site mitigation and right of way acquisition.
