Overview
This project built a new bridge that crosses over the southbound lanes of I-5 and a new HOV lane bridge that crosses over 44th Avenue as well as new on- and off-ramps that connect into existing I-5 HOV lanes.
The new ramps opened to traffic more than six months ahead of schedule and under budget.
 | Improves Safety
Vehicles no longer have to weave across three lanes of traffic to enter and exit the highway.
|
 | Relieves Congestion
The direct access ramps allow transit, vanpool and carpools direct access between the park and ride and the I-5 carpool lanes.
|
 | Protects Environment
We built two large water quality treatment ponds to filter construction runoff. Now that the project is complete they will filter stormwater runoff.

Partnerships & Cooperation
The new direct access ramps are part of Sound Transit's overall program to reduce travel times for bus riders and improve traffic flow for all commuters in the area. We teamed up with Sound Transit to build these direct access ramps across I-5 because improving traffic flow is part of our mission.
At WSDOT we seek to address the concerns of the tribal nations using the process outlined in Section 106 of The National Historic Preservation Act and the WSDOT Tribal Consultation Policy adopted in 2003 by the Transportation Commission as part of the WSDOT Centennial Accord Plan. Sound Transit worked with the Tulalip Tribe during the environmental assessment phase of this project.
