Project Description
This project widens I-5 from Grand Mound (US 12 West I/C) to Maytown by adding one lane in each direction. Recent Progress

Progress has been made toward developing the project design to help determine what additional right of way is needed for the project.  This has included finalizing the ramp alignments at the Grand Mound Interchange along with retaining wall locations and a strong emphasis on the storm water treatment design as well as pond locations.  Right of way plan development should begin this spring.

The Design Office is beginning a Cost Risk Assessment.  The modeling work should be completed in April.  This will provide a good picture of how the budget for the project is standing up, as well as provide a tool to manage the various risks in the project.

Design Construction Impacts

There are no issues at this time.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance

This project will have minor wetland impacts.  The Wetland Biology report is currently being updated with new wetland classifications in order to identify mitigation for the project.

One existing culvert on this project has been identified a fish passage barrier.  The design team is developing plans to replace this culvert with one that will allow fish passage to upstream habitat.

Impacts to Traffic

During construction, nightly lane closures and daytime width reductions will be necessary.

You may see equipment along the highway shoulders this fall doing exploratory soils investigations or project surveying.
