I-5 - Bakerview Road to Nooksack River Bridge

Quarterly Project Report Update for Quarter Ending September 2004

Project Title & Location
I-5, Bakerview Road to the Nooksack River Bridge, concrete pavement reconstruction, Bellingham to Ferndale

Project Description
This project will repair and replace segments of southbound Interstate 5 from Ferndale to Bellingham, between Bakerview Road and the Nooksack River Bridge.

Contractor/Consultant
Project has not been advertised or awarded.

Recent Progress

Met with Maintenance and NWR Materials and have identified the additional work needed to correct the deficient Portland cement concrete panels (PCCP) at Silver Creek area and for south bound I-5 at N.W. Ave.  A cost estimate of $248,000 was submitted to Program Development for their evaluation to do the added work.

Our office has been working with Assistant State Design Engineer  (ASDE) and NW Region to eliminate slope flatting work and ramp taper lengthening work based upon impacts to wet lands/right of way and accident history.  Our office will write the the deviations required if it is agreed not to do this work.

Design Construction Impacts

If approved by Program Management, the work to include the Silver Creek Vic and NW Ave. south bound lanes would have to be designed and the project limits change to add the additional work.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
If the deviations are approved for the slope flatting then this project would not have to deal with wetland impacts and mitigation.

Impacts to Traffic

We are just beginning the project design.  Impacts from the design and construction are not known yet.
