Quarterly Project Report Update for Quarter Ending March 2004

Project Title & Location
I-5, Bakerview Road to the Nooksack River Bridge, concrete pavement reconstruction, Bellingham to Ferndale

Project Description
This project will repair and replace segments of southbound Interstate 5 from Ferndale to Bellingham, between Bakerview Road and the Nooksack River Bridge.

Contractor/Consultant
Project has not been advertised or awarded.

Recent Progress

The project design office has recommended changing the type of safety work on this project. The design office is currently working with program Development and Management to get their concurrence.

Design Construction Impacts

Maintenance has requested the replacement of faulty concrete panels in the vicinity of Slater Rd. I/C for both N and S bound I-5 lanes.  WSDOT materials lab. has make recommendation for appropriate fix.  Program Management will be given a cost estimate of ($215k to $250k) for this additional work for their approval.  Project limits need to be extended to accommodate the added work in the north bound lane. 

Environmental Impacts / Compliance

After flagging and mapping the wetlands it has been determined that the safety improvements included in this project will effect wetlands.

Impacts to Traffic

We are just beginning the project design.  Impacts from the design and construction are not known yet.
