I-5 - Bakerview Road to Nooksack River Bridge

Quarterly Project Report Update for Quarter Ending December 2004

Project Title & Location
I-5, Bakerview Road to the Nooksack River Bridge, concrete pavement reconstruction, Bellingham to Ferndale

Project Description
This project will repair and replace segments of southbound Interstate 5 from Ferndale to Bellingham, between Bakerview Road and the Nooksack River Bridge.

Contractor/Consultant
The project has not been advertised or awarded.

Recent Progress

In September WSDOT delayed advertismant of this project to January 2007, to coincide with future funding for the associated pavement preservation work.

Our office has been working with Assistant State Design Engineer and NW Region to eliminate slope flatting work and ramp taper lengthening work based upon impacts to wet lands/right of way and accident history.  Our office will write the the deviations required if it is agreed not to do this work.

Design Construction Impacts

The project is on hold, because of the advertisment delay and is scheduled to restart November 2005.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
If the deviations are approved for the slope flattening then this project would not have to deal with wetland impacts and mitigation.

Impacts to Traffic

Impacts from the design and construction are not known yet.
