Overview
New direct ramps to I-5 increase the speed and reliability of bus service using the Ash Way park & ride.
One-hundred and eighty Community Transit and Sound Transit Express buses each day use this ramp for service to Lynnwood, Seattle and other areas to the south. Current estimates show an average transit travel time savings of 12 and a half minutes per round trip. This improves traffic flow for all commuters using I-5.
This project included a bridge over southbound I-5 and the exit to 164th Street Southwest being connected to the north end of the park and ride lot by a ramp. A new northbound off-ramp transit lane and a new on-ramp connect the other end of the bridge, located in the median area of I-5, down from the bridge to the southbound carpool lane.
 | Improves Safety
Helping buses get directly to and from the Ash Way Park & Ride lot without having to merge from the carpool lane across three lanes of heavy traffic will help decrease collisions on this busy stretch of I-5. The project increased safety and traffic flow for buses going into and out of Ash Way Park and ride and for all traffic traveling north and south on I-5 in south Snohomish County.

 | Protects Environment
In our continuing efforts to protect the environment, the WSDOT and Sound Transit team made use of a relatively new technology to filter the dirt and particles from storm water runoff. The "Chitosan" (pronounced "kye-toe-san") water filter system uses a material made from crushed crab shells to filter storm water running off the project areas to help protect salmon in nearby creeks.
