Moving towards construction on the west side of I-5
WSDOT is excited to report that we have finalized the design (pdf 217 kb) of three noise walls on the west side of I-5 between 5th Avenue NE and NE 92nd Street. The project was advertised for competitive bids to contractors in February 2008. We plan to begin construction of these noise walls in spring 2008; construction will be complete in early 2009.
WSDOT is working with Sound Transit to coordinate the future design and construction of a proposed noise wall (Wall 1) on the east side of I-5 with the North Link light rail project that is proposed to be built in the same area.
2007 by the numbers
Many of you have been involved in the project throughout the design process. During 2007, we’ve provided you with information and heard back from you in a variety of ways.
Here’s a wrap-up of 2007 by the numbers:
- Approximately 90 responses to comments and questions from community members
- Nine project briefings to the Green Lake, Licton Springs, and Maple Leaf Community Councils
- Eight neighborhood visits to discuss the project and learn about specific concerns
- Six project mailers or letters regarding community meetings or design decisions
- Five e-mail updates to keep neighbors informed
- Two community meetings: an eligible voters meeting on May 31 and a community design workshop on August 21
- One community poll to gauge neighborhood support
We will be in touch
We will continue to keep you informed as we approach the construction stage of this project by:
- Hosting a construction information session prior to the start of construction in spring 2008
- Maintaining our project Web site with updates and announcements
- Providing briefings to local community councils
- Distributing flyers about construction activities that may affect the neighborhood
