Overview
This summer, crews repaved 8.5 miles of worn pavement on southbound I-5 from Everett to Lynnwood. We also repaved the Swamp Creek interchange, and made several improvements to the 44th Avenue West interchange in Lynnwood, which included repaving the existing ramps, extending the on-ramp to southbound I-5, upgrading lighting and adding guardrail.
Crews also installed a 1.8 mile section of quieter pavement as part of this project.

This project increases safety with smooth new pavement, additional lighting and guardrail at the 44th Avenue West interchange, and a longer merge from the 44th Avenue West on-ramp.

 | Economic Incentive
This project extends the freeway's lifespan and puts an end to costly and inconvenient temporary repairs.

Partnerships & Cooperation
In May 2006 we awarded the contract to Wilder Construction. Crews began repaving the highway in July. Crews finished paving in October 2006.
At WSDOT we seek to address the concerns of the tribal nations using the process outlined in Section 106 of The National Historic Preservation Act and the WSDOT Tribal Consultation Policy adopted in 2003 by the Transportation Commission as part of the WSDOT Centennial Accord Plan.
This project was exempt from Section 106 consultation because work took place on existing roadway and within existing interchanges and medians. Crews replaced lighting, signals, and traffic control devices installed fewer than 50 years ago. (See stipulations 2B, 2E, and 2F)

This project was funded through the following fund sources:
- 2003 Gas Tax (Nickel Funding) - $2,579,815
- Existing Funds - $5,614,960
- Total Funding From All Sources - $8,194,775
