Project Title & Location
I-5/Second Street Bridge - Replace Bridge - Mount Vernon
|
Project Description
This project replaces a low-clearance bridge over I-5, eliminating a through-city detour now required for over-height trucks. The new bridge eliminates the risk of over-height trucks hitting the bridge over busy I-5 and will meet seismic standards.

Contractor/Consultant
Mowat Construction Company was awarded the project on June 1, 04 for $9.39 million dollars.

Recent Progress
Contractor has proposed changing the foundations for piers in the I-5 roadway prism. The new design decreases the cost of the project by $50,000 and will provide less severe lane shifts on I-5. The plans called for lane shifts up to 12 feet and the Contractors proposal will shift the lanes up to 2 feet. The Contractor's proposal has been accepted and is being incorporated into the contract. The Contractor has begun removing the old bridge and is scheduled to complete this work by the first week of November.
