I-5 - 2nd Street Bridge Replacement - Complete September 2006

Quarterly Project Report Update for Quarter Ending June 2003

Project Title & Location
I-5/Second Street Bridge – Replace Bridge – Mount Vernon

Project Description
This project replaces a low-clearance bridge over I-5, eliminating a through-city detour now required for over-height trucks. The new bridge eliminates the risk of over-height trucks hitting the bridge over busy I-5 and will meet seismic standards.

Contractor/Consultant
Project not yet advertised or awarded.

Recent Progress

Project started spring 2003 with bridge design after funds from the 2003 State legislative transportation funding package were available.  A new box girder bridge has been determined to meet the vertical clearance needs over I-5.

Design Construction Impacts

We are working with effected local utility companies to resolve issues relating to conflicts with existing utilities.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
No significant impacts.  Agreement with City of Mount Vernon to treat water from project.

Impacts to Traffic

No significant impacts expected until construction begins Spring 2004.  Significant traffic impacts will occur when the existing bridge is demolished and when foundations are built for the new bridge.  Mitigation efforts include a comprehensive public awareness campaign.
