Design Construction Impacts
The project start date was delayed to investigate the Contractor's proposed design changes to the new bridge piers next to I-5. This change reduced the number of days the bridge is closed from 225 to 210, saved $104,000, and reduced traffic control on I-5. Contractor started work three months later than originally scheduled to give the Contractor time to redesign the bridge and give WSDOT time to review the changes. The change was accepted and the Contractor began removing the existing bridge in late October.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
No significant impacts. Agreement with the City of Mount Vernon to treat water from new bridge.
|
Impacts to Traffic
Traffic will be detoured through Mount Vernon at night when full directional closure of I-5 is required (Contractor has used 3 of the 23, I-5 closures allowed in the contract). Mitigation efforts include a comprehensive public awareness campaign. The next I-5 closures may occur late February early March to place forms over I-5. The forms will be used to build the new bridge.
