I-405 - NE 132nd St. Interchange Improvements

Map of NE 132nd Interchange project vicinity

Status

November 2009

Overview
WSDOT will construct a new half interchange to and from the north at NE 132nd Street in Kirkland. This project will improve access and reduce traffic congestion at this and other interchanges in the Kirkland area.

Why is WSDOT constructing this new interchange?
The I-405 interchanges at NE 124th and NE 160th streets in Kirkland are heavily congested.  Constructing the new interchange at NE 132nd Street will ease bottlenecks at the NE 124th and NE 160th street interchanges.

The End Result
This new interchange will allow travelers to access I-405 to and from the north at NE 132nd Street rather than traveling to the heavily congested NE 124th Street interchange.

Project Benefits

  • Safety. This project alleviates traffic congestion at the NE 124th Street interchange, reducing congestion-related collisions.
  • Congestion relief. Provides new access to I-405, allowing motorists to enter and exit the freeway in a less congested location.
  • Environment. WSDOT's I-405 Corridor Program team is designing the project to avoid and minimize impacts to the environment

What is the project timeline?

  • 2009:  The bridge crossing will be cleared environmentally through the SR 520 to I-5 Improvement Project Environmental Assessment. Construction on the bridge crossing is scheduled to begin in 2009.
  • Construction on the ramps is not currently scheduled.

Financial Information
The information shown below reflects the current proposed project budget and schedule. The 2009 Legislature may consider changes to the transportation budget that may include adjustments to some project budgets and schedules.
