SR 507, Centralia - I-5 to Old Skookumchuck River Bridge
 |

Schedule: Good The contract was completed within the number of working days allowed.
Cost: Good Engineer's estimate: $800,697.
Contractor's bid amount: $569,292
Final payment: $600,343
The variance from the engineer’s estimate is primarily due to lower than anticipated costs for asphalt paving items. Additional working days were needed due to paving work added for the City of Centralia by a reimbursable agreement. This work, contributed to the increase between the bid amount and the final payment. However, the cost associated with this additional work was reimbursed by the city and contributed to a cost-effective way to coordinate adjacent work.

This project resurfaced SR 507 (Mellen Street/Tower Avenue/Pearl Street) between I-5 and the Old Skookumchuck River Bridge in Centralia for improved mobility through the city. WSDOT worked closely with the city during this project in order to get it completed without disrupting the city's planned concrete intersection enhancement project through the same area. By partnering, the city and the state benefited by receiving an overall lower cost than could have been achieved by contracting this work independently. This partnership also resulted in reduced impacts to the traveling public. Construction began on May 1 and the improvements were open to traffic on July 1. Final completion of the project was on September 5, after some additional cleanup work of the city's curb and sidewalk.
In order to better accommodate the needs of residents living along portions of SR 507, WSDOT staggered nighttime paving activities. Disruptions to people's sleep were minimized by doing the grinding and paving work in residential areas earlier in the evening.
