SR 500, Vancouver - Burnt Bridge Creek to Andresen Road
 |

Schedule: Good The 30-day contract time was used in its entirety, but was not exceeded.
Cost: Good Engineer's estimates: $2,036,000
Contractor's bid amount: $1,930,000
Anticipated final payment: $1,832,000
The variance from the engineer’s estimate is due to the bidder’s anticipated cost savings for constructing this project during weekend closures. The variance between the bid amount and the anticipated final cost are due to minor and routine quantity underruns.

This project rebuilt the right lanes of SR 500 between Burnt Bridge Creek (near St. John's Boulevard) and Andresen Road. Work was done in order to strengthen the highway for heavier traffic loads, and all lanes were paved to improve overall mobility on this heavily traveled route. Construction began on June 26 and was completed five weeks later on July 31. WSDOT engineers were able to shave 10 weeks off the project by scheduling all the paving work over two full weekend-closures in July. The eastbound side was done on July 12-14 and westbound on July 19-21.
During the first weekend of paving, compaction problems with the asphalt paving superpave mix were discovered. These required the contractor, Lakeside Industries (Vanvouver), and WSDOT to make immediate adjustments on-site to avoid critical delay. The closed section of roadway was reopened on time.
