A two-summer project to improve the safety and pavement of SR 303 through central Kitsap County is nearly completed. SR 303 is a main route for motorists traveling between Bremerton and Silverdale. This summer's construction work by Ace Paving of Belfair focused on improving the section between the Brownsville Highway and Clear Creek Road.
Approximately 45,000 tons of asphalt was used to resurface the highway. The project also provided acceleration and deceleration lanes at the Nels Nelson intersection, longer on-ramps for the Ridgetop Interchange, guardrail to prevent median crossover accidents and slope flattening throughout the project. A stormwater retention pond was added at the Ridgetop Interchange and an existing pond was enlarged near the Nels Nelson intersection to improve water quality of roadway runoff. Traffic signal upgrades were made at the Brownsville Highway intersection and at Ridgetop Boulevard.
