I-5 Ramp Paving– South Tacoma to Fife
 |

Schedule: Good This project was completed within the allotted 30 working days.
Cost: Good Engineer’s estimate: $1,064,000
Contractor’s bid amount: $1,088,000
Anticipated final payment: $950,000.
The variance from the engineer’s estimate is primarily due to fewer roadway repairs were needed, traffic control costs were less than estimated, and there was an underrun in the amount of asphalt used. The lower project cost can be attributed to minor and routine quantity underruns.

This summer WSDOT's contractor, Woodworth and Company, repaired and repaved the worst-condition ramps of seven interchanges along Interstate 5 in the Tacoma area. The repaved ramps included portions at 84th Street Interchange, 72nd Street Interchange, 56th Street Interchange, I-705 Interchange, Port Of Tacoma Road Interchange, and 54th Avenue (Fife) Interchange. The work will extend the life of the roadway, while providing a much smoother ride for motorists.
The bridge rails along the Port of Tacoma Road and 54th Avenue bridges were also strengthened. In addition, nearly 200 highway signs were replaced with newer, easier to see signs. During this work, a traffic advisory message board was installed on I-5 at 84th Street to alert northbound drivers of construction-related impacts.
