SR 20 Damnation Creek Bridge Replacement - East of Concrete

On time: Good
On Budget: Good This project is just about complete. It is expected to be on-time and on-budget at $1.2 million
What sounds like a simple bridge replacement is actually a great example of how state and federal agencies can work together to get the job done. This bridge provides access to Newhalem from the west and is critical for Newhalem residents, others who live to the north, and Seattle City Light. The old bridge, at 50 years old, was supported by cedar logs that had begun to rot. By working together, WSDOT, State and Federal Fish and Wildlife agencies, the National Marine Fisheries Service and National Parks were able to complete and meet the permits required for the job, allowing replacement of the bridge to be finished in one season. This saved money by eliminating the need to add a temporary bridge to provide access over the upcoming winter.
