The Elk River Bridge on SR 105 was built in the mid-1950s. The bridge deck was worn out, allowing water to seep into the bridge, forming rust on the rebar and causing the concrete to expand and delaminate. To preserve the bridge, the contractor, Concrete Barrier, Inc., poured a new deck with a seal that will extend the life of the driving surface for another 20 to 30 years, thus preserving a valuable connection between Bay City and Westport. Motorists will have a smoother ride as a result.
In addition, the curb and railing of the bridge were replaced to bring them up to current standards, increasing safety.
Other notes: Port of Tacoma Grade Separation, Marvin Road and Trosper Road were essentially all constructed with other people's money.
Earthquake Repair on SR 101 received a great deal of media coverage following the Earthquake
Port of Tacoma Grade Separation was listed by "Daily Journal of Commerce as the Number 8 out of 25 of the Washington State Top Public Projects in the category of hard bids"
