2001 Project Highlights

WSDOT is wrapping up a season of construction to improve Washington's highways and Interstate freeways. Since January 1st, WSDOT and our contractors have completed 88 projects to rebuild interchanges and bridges, pave roads and make safety improvements across the state. For these 88 projects, the total of our engineers' estimates were $141.6 million and the total of the winning contractors' bids was $126.5 million. Our final contractor payments were just under $130 million. That's about 2.5% over the prices at which the work was awarded to the contractor.

WSDOT is working hard to demonstrate to legislators, taxpayers and motorists our success in delivering projects. We think our record is worth sharing. Below is a sampling of projects that demonstrate our ability to get the job done.

This construction season also highlighted areas where we need improvement. Severe traffic tie ups in Everett from our SR 529 bridge work show we can do better on traffic management and communications with those affected by our work.
