  • The Puget Sound Regional Council voted on March 12 to fund this critical ready-to-go project through the Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
  • It is estimated that this project will support more than 30 jobs.

Overview
WSF will replace 12 piles and make over 30 repairs at various locations on the timber trestle of the Vashon dock. This project also includes removal and replacement of existing cracked asphalt pavement on the trestle.

Why is WSDOT replacing timbers and resurfacing the Vashon dock?
Asphalt on timber docks provides a water barrier to protect the timber dock beneath it. Severe cracking in the asphalt, which allows water to penetrate, is accelerating the deterioration of the timbers below.

The End Result
Replacing the timbers will improve the dock structure and minimize future maintenance. Replacing the asphalt will result in improved protection for the dock structure below.

Project Benefits
Replacing asphalt surfaces will help prevent timber deterioration by preventing water from draining onto timbers. Preserving the dock helps ensure that we can provide reliable ferry service for WSF customers.
