Vehicle reservations are available
With the retirement of the Steel Electric class vessels in November 2007, the Port Townsend/Keystone route is operating with only one boat and reduced capacity while new boats are being built. To decrease wait times during the busy 2008 summer season, reservations are now available on the Port Townsend/Keystone route for sailings on or after Monday, May 19.
How to make a reservation
You can make reservations from 30 days in advance up to two hours before your sailing.
- You can currently make a reservation by phone. Call us at 1-888-808-7977 (WA & BC toll free), 206-464-6400 or 511 (WA) between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. daily. You can call our toll free number free from pay phones located near the Port Townsend and Keystone terminals.
- Starting Monday, May 19, you can make a reservation at the Port Townsend or Keystone terminals.
- Starting Wednesday, May 21, you can make a reservation here on our Web site.
- Starting Wednesday, May 21, you can make a reservation through local Chamber of Commerce offices and participating businesses.
Once you make a reservation you will be given a confirmation number that you must bring with you to the terminal along with picture ID.
Key Facts
- Reservations are for vehicles and motorcycles only. Motorcycles must make a reservation to ensure priority boarding on this route.
- There is no fee for making a reservation.
- Customers are encouraged to make a reservation. Customers without reservations will be allowed to sail only as space becomes available.
- Customers with reservations may arrive at the terminal no earlier than 90 minutes before departure time. You must arrive at the terminal at least 30 minutes before departure time or you will forfeit your reservation and move to stand-by.
- To travel roundtrip, you will need to make separate reservations for your Port Townsend departure and your Keystone departure. Limit one Port Townsend departure reservation and one Keystone departure reservation per day, per customer.
Reservation Categories
Priority boarding is given to customers who make their reservation at least one day before their sailing. Details of different reservation categories are below:
- Advance reservations can be made as early as 30 days before and up to 4:30 a.m. on the day of your sailing. If a sailing is cancelled, advance reservation holders will be given the option to remain at the terminal and will have priority boarding for the next sailing.
- Same day reservations begin at 4:30 a.m. on the day of your sailing and can be made up to 2 hours prior to your sailing. If a sailing is cancelled, customers with same day reservations will be transitioned to stand-by and will be added to the next sailing if space is available.
- Stand-by customers are those without a reservation for a particular sailing and will be allowed to sail only as space becomes available.
Additional travel options
In the event space is not available or service is cancelled or delayed on the Port Townsend/Keystone route customers can use the Edmonds/Kingston and Mukilteo/Clinton routes as an alternative. Call WSF Customer Service for assistance with specific alternate travel arrangements.
