Overview
To preserve the roadways and to improve the driving surface, a Bituminous Surface Treatment (BST), also known as a chip seal, was applied. It is a flexible, protective surface of asphalt emulsion and gravel that is applied to existing or repaired pavement. The following highways were resurfaced under this project: one mile of SR-20 in Stevens County, 28 miles of SR 20 in Pend Orielle County, 39 miles of SR 23 in Whitman County, 12 miles of SR 26 in Whitman County, 11 miles of SR 27 in Whitman County, 27 miles of SR 31 in Pend Oreille County, 19 miles of SR 272 in Whitman County, and segments of local streets witin the towns of Newport, Lamont, Garfield, Metaline, and Palouse.
