Overview
A new interchange at NE 6th Street in Bellevue gives buses, carpools and vanpools direct access between the I-405 HOV lanes and the expanded Bellevue Transit Center. This project also improved local streets and the 405 interchanges at NE 4th, NE 8th and SE 8th streets.
This project was completed more than a year ahead of the original schedule and approximately $25 million under budget.
 | Improves Safety
Buses, carpools and vanpools can enter and exit the freeway without weaving through other lanes of traffic.
|
 | Relieves Congestion
New ramps reduce the amount of traffic on other ramps in the area. Reduces slowdowns caused by merging.
|
 | Protects Environment
We built four water quality treatment ponds to filter water coming off the roadway and improved storm drainage systems throughout the project area.

Partnerships & Cooperation
WSDOT worked with Sound Transit, the city of Bellevue, King County Metro, the Federal Highway Administration and the Transportation Improvement Board to make these improvements. Sound Transit provided the majority of the funding for this project as part of the program to facilitate express bus service between regional urban centers.
At WSDOT we seek to address the concerns of the tribal nations using the process outlined in Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the WSDOT Tribal Consultation Policy adopted in 2003 by the Transportation Commission as part of the WSDOT Centennial Accord Plan.
The Muckleshoot, Snoqualmie, Duwamish, Yakam and Kikiallus Tribes were consulted during this project. Follow-up calls invited them to comment on the project's Cultural Resource Survey.
