Snohomish County Projects
Between 2008 and 2020, WSDOT is investing more than $1.2 billion to improve highways in Snohomish County including I-5, US 2, SR 9, SR 522, SR 526, and SR 532.
Currently, crews are working to eliminate traffic choke points by:
- widening I-5 through Everett
- widening SR 9 north of Woodinville
- building a park-and-ride facility in the I-5 median in South Everett
- improving interchanges and intersections on SR 532 through Stanwood
In the next two years, we will:
- Add rumble strips and high-visibility striping to US 2 between Monroe and Stevens Pass
- Stabilize two hillsides on US 2 near Sunset Falls and Index
- Widen nearly two miles of SR 9 south of Snohomish
- Add new turn lanes and safety improvements on SR 9 in Marysville and Arlington
- Repave sections of I-5, SR 528 and SR 526 to preserve these roadways and reduce costly repairs
- Build a bus station in the I-5 median at 236th Street SW in Mountlake Terrace
Over the next 10 years, we will:
- Improve seven intersections and widen several sections of SR 9
- Replace the SR 529 Ebey Slough bridge in Everett
- Build wider and longer on- and off-ramps on the SR 531 Smokey Point interchange near Marysville
- Improve access and eliminate choke points on SR 532 between Stanwood and Camano Island
- Widen SR 522 between the Snohomish River and US 2 in Monroe
US 2 (Also called Steven's Pass Highway)

SR 532 Corridor Improvements
Crews will begin construction on $82.1 million in improvements on SR 532 to keep drivers safe and traffic moving on this important state route which connects Camano Island and the City of Stanwood to the Interstate 5 Corridor. As part of this larger improvement, we will complete the following projects:
- Between 64th Ave NW and 12th Ave NW we will install left-turn lanes at several intersections, construct a westbound truck-climbing lane between 12th Ave NW and 28th Ave NW, remove a fish barrier in the Pilchuck Creek Tributary near 12th Ave NW, and provide access control for driveways.
- Between 270th Street NW and 72nd Ave NW in the city of Stanwood we will repave this section of road and install left- and right-turn lanes at selected intersections, construct an eastbound truck-climbing lane between Pioneer Highway and 72nd Ave NW, update the sidewalks and driveways to meet ADA standards and add sidewalks where they currently do not exist. We will also reconfigure the central business area to provide a shared bikeway and street parking.
- Between Stanwood and Camano Island we will replace the General Mark W. Clark Memorial Bridge with a wider and safer bridge. The new bridge will provide a shared 14 foot lane to accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians, and allow room for vehicle breakdowns without blocking traffic. We will also construct a westbound left-turn pocket at Eide Road.
- Between N Sunrise Blvd and Davis Slough we will install left-turn lanes at select intersections and modify driveways to align with intersection improvements.
