Striping season crew locations this week

Striping season lasts from April 16 until October 31. Crews will re-stripe more than 4,500 miles on dozens of highways around the Puget Sound area between the King/Pierce county line and the U.S./Canadian border. View the monthly striping schedule.

DRIVER ALERT: US 2 Eastbound Trestle Congestion Relief – I-5 to SR 204

Crews will remove more than two miles of striping and restripe the trestle to create two lanes of traffic and a wider, 14-foot right shoulder. This work is part of a two-phase fix to improve congestion on the trestle and at the I-5/US 2 interchange.

Plan ahead: Crews will completely close the eastbound US 2 trestle between I-5 and SR 204 overnight on Friday, Oct. 10. The will close the first lane starting at 8:30 p.m. The trestle will be completely closed at midnight. To avoid a nearly 20-mile detour during the closure, northbound I-5 drivers should take SR 96 (128th St) in Mill Creek and southbound I-5 drivers should take SR 528 (4th St) in Marysville and connect with SR 9.

  • Friday, Oct. 10 – Crews will close the northbound I-5 ramp to eastbound US 2 from 10 p.m. Friday to noon on Saturday for striping. The work is weather dependent.
  • Friday, Oct. 10 - Crews will close the southbound I-5 ramp to eastbound US 2 from 8 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday for striping. The work is weather dependent.
  • Friday, Oct. 10 - Crews will close the on-ramp from Hewitt Avenue from 11:59 p.m. to noon on Saturday for striping. The work is weather dependent.

US 2: Corridor Rumble Strip Installment, #7496

Crews will add over 40 miles of rumble strips on US 2 from Monroe to just west of the Stevens Pass summit. Crews will also add permanent, high-visibility striping and upgrade signs along the highway.

  • Wednesday, Oct. 15 - Thursday, Oct. 16 - Flaggers will alternate both directions of US 2 near the Money Creek Tunnel from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to install signs.

US 2: Sunset Falls Slope Stabilization #7424

Crews will stabilize a 310 foot section of the embankment under US 2 near Sunset Falls by building a rock buttress, which is a large rock and gravel wall. Crews will also repave the damaged road.

  • Monday, Oct. 13 - Flaggers will alternate both directions of US 2, one mile east of Index from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for striping. This work is weather dependent.

Crews have completed temporary repairs and stabilized the road after a landslide caused the eastbound lane to sink over seven feet. The road will not be returned to its original configuration until after a permanent fix is in place.

  • Monday, Oct. 6- Friday, Oct. 10 - Flaggers will alternate both directions of US 2, just east of Index from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for slide repair work. On Friday, Flaggers will alternate traffic from 7 a.m. to noon.

US 2: Construction Closures Related to I-5 Everett Freeway Expansion, #6991

  • Saturday, Oct. 11 - Crews will close the right lane of northbound I-5 at 44th Avenue W in Lynnwood from 9 a.m. to noon for bridge work.
  • Saturday, Oct. 11 - Crews will close the left (HOV) lane of northbound I-5 at 44th Avenue W in Lynnwood from noon to 3 p.m. for bridge work.

I-5: South Everett Freeway Station, #7163

WSDOT and Sound Transit will build a park-and-ride facility in the Interstate 5 median north of 112th Street SE. We will also build new HOV ramps and widen 112th Street SE. This will enhance safety and reduce slowdowns caused by weaving or merging traffic, resulting in shorter commute times for all drivers.

I-5: Everett, SR 526 to US 2 HOV Lanes, #6991

Crews extended carpool lanes on Interstate 5 between SR 526 and US 2 in Everett. We also rebuilt the 41st Street interchange and widened or rebuilt 23 bridges. These improvements have helped address one of our state's most notorious bottlenecks.


Mainline closures:
Crews are are nearly finished repairing expansion joints and need one more warm, dry night to complete this work on southbound I-5. 

Friday, Oct. 10 - Saturday, Oct. 11
Crews will close the left three lanes on southbound I-5 from the Snohomish River bridge to 41st Street from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.

General closure schedule:

  • Weekdays: Crews will close the first southbound lane at 8 p.m., the second lane at 9 p.m. and if necessary, the third lane by 10 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. They’ll close the first northbound lane starting at 9 p.m., the second lane at 10 p.m. and the third lane, if necessary at 11 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 6 a.m.
  • Fridays and Saturdays: Crews will close the first southbound lane at 9 p.m., the second lane at 10 p.m. and the third lane, if necessary, at 11 p.m. Crews will close the first northbound lane at 10 p.m., the second northbound lane at 11 p.m. and the third lane, if necessary, at midnight. All lanes will be open on the weekends by 8 a.m.

Ramp closures: I-5 Everett crews will continue striping with the remaining clear nights. 

Weather permitting, all ramps within the Everett HOV project are posted for night closure, but may remain open pending weather and equipment availability. This includes all ramps to and from northbound and southbound I-5 from SR 526 to Marine View Drive, as well as all ramps to and from eastbound and westbound US 2 in Everett. Warm, dry nights will allow crews to place final striping and add reflectors.

The Tulalip Tribes are widening 116th Street NE from Quil Ceda Boulevard to I-5. The construction work also includes the southbound I-5 on and off ramps.

  • This project has been suspended indefinitely.

SR 9: Lake Stevens Road to 20th Street SE, #MS5998

Using WSDOT funding, Snohomish County will widen SR 9 and provide right-turning vehicles with their own lane at 20th Street SE and left-turning vehicles with a double left-turn lane. Crews working for Snohomish County will replace the current bridge over Centennial Creek with a new, wider bridge to accommodate the wider roadway.

  • We do not expect construction to affect traffic this week.

SR 9: Schloman Road to 268th Street NE, #7267

WSDOT will improve safety and reduce congestion on SR 9 between Schloman Road and 268th Street NE by adding turn lanes at the busiest intersections, straightening the curve in the road and filling in a dip. 

  • Monday, Oct. 6 - Friday, Oct. 10 - Crews will alternate both directions of SR 9 from 268th Street to Schloman Road from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to install guardrail.
  • Monday, Oct. 13 - Friday, Oct. 17 - Crews will alternate both directions of SR 9 from 268th Street to Schloman Road from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for construction work.

Crews will remove existing pavement and resurface nearly three miles of SR 526 near Mukilteo. Crews will pave all lanes in each direction of SR 526 from 40th Avenue West to 5th Avenue West, and will pave eastbound lanes from 5th Avenue West to Casino Road.

  • Monday, Oct. 6 - Friday, Oct. 10 - Crews will close the shoulders in both directions of SR 526 from 40th Avenue W and Evergreen Way throughout the day for electrical work.
  • Sunday, Oct. 12 - Thursday, Oct. 16 - Crews will close the left lane of westbound SR 526 between 40th Avenue W and Evergreen Way nightly from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m. to install guardrail and concrete barriers. **FREIGHT NOTE** Trucks in excess of 40 feet-long are not permitted on the off-ramp to Airport Road. Detours will be in place.
  • Monday, Oct. 13 - Friday, Oct. 17 - Crews will close the shoulders in both directions of SR 526 from 40th Avenue W and Evergreen Way throughout the day for electrical work.

Crews will remove existing pavement and resurface half a mile of State Route 528 (4th Street) between I-5 and SR 529 (State Street) in Marysville. Crews will also replace a water line for the City of Marysville and complete several safety improvements along SR 528 between I-5 and SR 529.

  • Sunday, Oct. 12 - the morning of Thursday, Oct. 16 - Crews will close the left lane in each direction of SR 528 nightly from I-5 to SR 529 (State Street) for striping. The eastbound lane will be closed from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.; the westbound lane will be closed from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. The work is weather-dependent.

This project is located on SR 531 near SR 9. Improvements being made by the city of Arlington include construction of a curb, a sidewalk and storm drain system. Other work includes paving, striping and widening of the roadway.

SR 532: Additional Paving near Stanwood, # 7315

We will re-pave just under a half mile of SR 532 from just west of Old Highway 99 to just east of the I-5 overpass. Crews will repair cracks and grind down the old surface before placing a new overlay of pavement. This smoother surface will improve safety and extend the life of the road.

"The Farm" Pumpkin Patch/Corn Maze

  • Saturday, Sept. 27 - Friday, Oct. 31 - The 12 acre corn maze is the shape of Washington State. The maze is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. throughout the month of October.

Everett Silvertips Hockey

  • Friday, Oct. 10 - The Silvertips play the Seattle Thunderbirds at the Comcast Arena beginning at 7:35 p.m.
  • Friday, Oct. 17 -  The Silvertips play the Kelowna Rockets at the Comcast Arena beginning at 7:35 p.m.
  • Saturday, Oct. 18 -  The Silvertips play the Kamloops Blazers at the Comcast Arena beginning at 7:35 p.m.

Flying Heritage Collection Fly Days

  • Saturday, Oct. 11 - Flying occurs between noon and 1 p.m. All events are weather permitting and are scheduled to change. Fly Day viewing is free, but does not include admission to the Flying Heritage Collection Exhibit.

  • Monday, Oct. 13 - Randy Jackson from American Idol fame, brings his newest show "America's Best Dance Crew" to the Comcast Arena in Everett.

Haunted Forest: Halloween Fun at Forest Park

  • Sunday, Oct. 19 - Friday, Oct. 31 - The Haunted Forest is from 7 - 10 p.m. on weekdays and 7 - 11 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Halloween.
