SR 9 - 4th Street SE Safety Improvements

We will improve safety on SR 9  at the intersection of 4th Street SE near Hillcrest Elementary School in Lake Stevens. WSDOT crews will install new curbing, road signs, and striping to change the way drivers enter and exit SR 9 at 4th Street SE.

Why is WSDOT making changes to SR 9?

Our goal is to improve safety for the 19,000 vehicles that travel this section of SR 9 each day. Since 1999, there have been 36 collisions at the intersection of SR 9 and 4th Street SE. About half of the incidents involved westbound drivers on 4th Street SE entering SR 9. Changing the way drivers enter and exit SR 9 at this intersection will improve traffic flow and reduce the risk of serious collisions.

The End Result

We will restrict turns on and off of SR 9 at the intersection of 4th Avenue. Changes include:

  • Drivers headed east on 4th Street SE will not be able to cross SR 9 or turn left to head northbound on SR 9.
  • Drivers headed westbound on 4th Street SE will not be able to cross SR 9.
