This webpage contains information about WSDOT construction projects affecting vehicle or pedestrian traffic on I-5, SR 99, I-5/I-90 interchange, SR 519 and city streets through downtown Seattle and SODO. The information on this page could change without notice.

Regional High-Impact Closures

WSDOT: I-5 Seattle Bridge Repair
Learn more about I-5 bridge repair closures coming this spring.


 

This week:

  • Friday, April 11 – Three left lanes on northbound I-5 will be closed at South Jackson Street from 10 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday.
  • Saturday, April 12 – Two right lanes on southbound I-5 will be closed from 9:30 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday.

Next week:

 

  • Friday, April 18 – Monday, April 21 - Northbound I-5 between the northbound I-5 off-ramp to South Spokane Street and the on-ramp from South Spokane Street will be reduced to the two left lanes from 9:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

 

 

North End Closures

WSDOT: SR 99 Tunnel Project 

Long-term closures:

  • Sixth Avenue North is closed between Thomas and Republican streets for construction at the north portal of the SR 99 tunnel. Sixth Avenue North will reopen after the SR 99 tunnel opens to traffic.
  • Harrison Street is closed from just west of Aurora Avenue to Broad Street for construction at the north portal of the SR 99 tunnel. Harrison Street will reopen after the tunnel opens to traffic.
  • Republican Street is closed between Aurora Avenue North and Sixth Avenue North for construction at the north portal of the SR 99 tunnel. Republican Street will reopen after the tunnel opens to traffic.
  • Parking is closed permanently on the north side of Thomas Street between Aurora Avenue North and Sixth Avenue North.

  • No closures are scheduled.

WSDOT: SR 99 North Access Project

Long-term closures:

  • Permanent closure – The sidewalk on the east side of SR 99/Aurora Avenue North is closed around the clock between Harrison and Mercer streets.

  • Monday, April 14 – Tuesday, April 15
    • Harrison Street will be closed between SR 99 and Eighth Avenue North from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
    • The left lanes in both directions of Dexter Avenue North will be closed between Republican and Thomas streets from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
  • Wednesday, April 16 – Friday, April 18 – Republican Street will be closed between SR 99 and Eighth Avenue North from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
  • Wednesday, April 16 – Thursday, April 17 – The left lanes in both directions of Dexter Avenue will be closed between Harrison and Mercer from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

City of Seattle: Mercer Corridor project 

Long-term closures:

  • Until spring 2014 – The sidewalk on the east side of Dexter Avenue North will be closed around the clock between Mercer and Republican streets.
  • Until spring 2014 – The sidewalk on the south side of Mercer Street will be closed on weekdays between Eighth and Ninth avenues from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Until spring 2014 – The right turn lane from Dexter Avenue North to eastbound Mercer Street will be closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays.
  • Until spring 2014 – Eighth Avenue North is closed around the clock between Republican and Mercer streets. Local access is provided via Republican Street.
  • Until further notice – Pedestrians can expect sidewalk and crosswalk restrictions at the corners of intersections on Mercer and Roy streets between Fifth Avenue North and Fifth Avenue West from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, excluding holidays. Sidewalks will be open between Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.
  • Until further notice – Traffic will be shifted to the north side of Mercer Street between First and Fourth avenues north.

This week:

  • Monday, April 7 – Friday, April 11 – The right turn lane from northbound Fifth Avenue North to eastbound Mercer Street will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. 
  • Monday, April 7 – Friday, April 11 – The southwest corner of the intersection of Queen Anne Avenue North and Roy Street will be closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

Long-term closures:

  • Until further notice - The northbound curb lane and sidewalk will be closed around the clock on Elliott Avenue between Battery and Bell streets.  
  • Until further notice  – The north sidewalk and curb lane on the north side of John Street will be closed around the clock between Broad Street and Fifth Avenue North. 
  • Until further notice – Drivers should expect intermittent lane closures at the Fifth Avenue North/John Street intersection from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays.
  • Until further notice – Drivers should expect intermittent lane closures at the Denny Way/Sixth Avenue North intersection from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays.
  • Until further notice – Drivers should expect intermittent lane closures on John Street between Fifth Avenue North and Sixth Avenue North from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays.

  • Through April 18 - Harrison Street will be closed around the clock at Westlake Avenue.
  • Through April 18 - The right curb lane on Westlake Avenue will be closed around the clock at Harrison Street.

  • Until further notice - The parking lane, bicycle lane and sidewalk on the west side of Dexter Avenue North will be closed between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays.

  • Monday, April 7 – Friday, April 11 – Drivers should expect intermittent single lane closures between Fifth Avenue and the alley from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

  • Until further notice– The right travel and bike lanes of Bell Street will be closed between Sixth and Fifth avenues will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays, excluding holidays. The right sidewalk will be closed around the clock.
  • Until further notice – The left travel and parking lanes of Sixth Avenue will be closed between Bell and Battery streets from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays, excluding holidays. The left sidewalk will be closed around the clock.
  • Until further notice - The south curb lane and sidewalk on Battery Street will be closed between Fifth and Sixth avenues from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on weekdays, excluding holidays. The sidewalk will be closed around the clock.

  • Until further notice – The parking lane and sidewalk on the south side of John Street will be closed around the clock between the alley and Taylor Avenue North.
  • Until further notice - The parking lane and sidewalk on the west side of Taylor Avenue North will be closed around the clock between Denny Way and John Street.
  • Until further notice – The southbound lane of Taylor Avenue North between Denny Way and John Street will be closed from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays.

This week:

  • Tuesday, April 8 – Thursday, April 10 – A southbound lane will be closed on Taylor Avenue North between John Street and Denny Way from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Friday, April 11 – Taylor Avenue North will be closed between John Street and Denny Way from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Next week:

  • Monday, April 14 - Thursday, April 17 - A southbound lane will be closed on Taylor Avenue North between John Street and Denny Way from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Long-term closures:

  • Until further notice – The sidewalk and parking lane on the west side of Seventh Avenue between Blanchard Street and Westlake Avenue will be closed around the clock.
  • Until further notice – The parking lane on the east side of Sixth Avenue between Lenora and Virginia streets will be closed around the clock. The sidewalk on the east side of Sixth Avenue will be closed during the day.
  • Until further notice  – Part of the sidewalk and bus staging lane on Blanchard Street will closed around the clock between Sixth and Seventh avenues.
  • Until further notice – The travel lane, parking lane and sidewalk on the south side of Lenora Street between Sixth and Seventh avenues will be closed around the clock.
  • Until further notice – The sidewalk and parking lane on the north side of Virginia Street between Sixth and Westlake avenues will be closed around the clock. Pedestrian access maintained in the parking lane.
  • Until further notice - The sidewalk, curb lane and parts of two travel lanes will be closed around the clock on Sixth Avenue between Lenora and Blanchard streets.

Long-term closures:

  • Long-term detour – All Alaskan Way traffic has been be detoured under the viaduct between Madison and Virginia streets. The new roadway is one lane in each direction with protected center-turn lanes. View more details.
  • Long-term traffic shift – The ferry terminal exit at Yesler Way is reduced to one lane.

  •  No additional closures are scheduled.

City of Seattle: Maintenance and Street Use Permits

Long-term closures:

  • Until further notice – The right curb lane and sidewalk on Second Avenue will be closed around the clock between Virginia and Stewart streets. The right travel lane on Second Avenue will be closed around the clock in this location from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays.
  • Through April 18 – Seattle DOT crews will shift lanes at the intersection of Union and Western streets from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

      Long-term closures: 

      • Permanently closed - A section of street parking has been removed on the west side of First Avenue just south of Railroad Avenue South.  

      This week:

      • No additional closures are scheduled.

      WSDOT: South Atlantic Street Overpass     

      Long-term closures:

      • Long-term traffic shift – Vehicle traffic on South Atlantic Street has been shifted onto the new South Atlantic Street overpass between Colorado Avenue South and Alaskan Way South. The surface street rail crossing on South Atlantic Street will remain closed to through traffic until the SR 99 tunnel opens.

      Long-term closures:

      • Until early April 2014 –The East Marginal Way South ramp shoulders to and from SR 99 will be closed in each direction between South Nevada Street and Duwamish Avenue South from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays.

      This week:

      • Thursday, April 10 –Southbound SR 99 will be reduced to one lane between South Holgate Street and South Spokane from 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.

      • Until further notice – First Avenue South will be reduced by one lane in each direction daily between South Atlantic Street and Railroad Way South from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays, and between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Crews will close lanes on days with major events at the stadiums.
