Weekly update of construction closures in Downtown Seattle and SODO

This webpage contains information about WSDOT construction projects affecting vehicle or pedestrian traffic through downtown Seattle and SODO. If a highway is not listed below, there are no scheduled lane closures at this time, although emergency lane closures may still occur.

This information changes frequently so please check back often. Travelers can also call 5-1-1 or monitor @WSDOT_Traffic on Twitter for real-time traffic and weather updates.

Express Lanes Schedule Changes

Description: WSDOT uses the I-5 express lanes to assist the flow of traffic during busy travel times. These lanes are scheduled to move in the direction that will relieve the most congestion from the transportation system.

Work schedule:

  • Wednesday, July 4, to the morning of Thursday, July 5 - The I-5 express lanes will operate on the weekend schedule for the Independence Day holiday. The lanes will remain open in the northbound direction until 4:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
  • **HIGH IMAPCT** Saturday, July 14 - The I-5 express lanes will be open in the southbound direction from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • **HIGH IMAPCT** Sunday, July 15 - The I-5 express lanes will be open in the southbound direction from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
NB MLK Jr Way to NE Ravenna Br Pavement Repair - #8952

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are replacing 37 expansion joints and large sections of concrete pavement on northbound I-5 between MLK Junior Way South/SR 900 in Tukwila and Northeast Ravenna Boulevard in Seattle.

  • Saturday, June 23, to the morning of Sunday, June 24 - Four lanes of northbound I-5 between MLK Junior Way/SR 900 and Swift Avenue/Albro Place will be closed from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. This work is weather dependent.
  • Wednesday, June 27, to the morning of Friday, June 29 - Up to three lanes of northbound I-5 between Interurban Avenue and Swift Avenue/Albro Place will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly. This work is weather dependent.
  • Monday, June 25, to the morning of Friday, June 29 - Up to three lanes of northbound I-5 between SR 520 and Ravenna Boulevard will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly. This work is weather dependent.
  • Thursday, June 28, to the morning of Friday, June 29 - Up to three lanes of northbound I-5 between the West Seattle Bridge and Olive Way will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. This work is weather dependent.
  • Saturday, June 30, to the morning of Sunday, July 1 - Up to three lanes of northbound I-5 between the West Seattle Bridge and Olive Way will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. This work is weather dependent.

RAMP CLOSURES

  • Monday, June 25, to the morning of Friday, June 29 - The Swift Avenue on-ramp to northbound I-5 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly. This work is weather dependent.
  • Monday, June 25, to the morning of Wednesday, June 27 - The 50th Street on-ramp to northbound I-5 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly. This work is weather dependent.
  • Monday, June 25, to the morning of Wednesday, June 27 - The northbound I-5 off-ramp to Ravenna Boulevard will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly. This work is weather dependent.
  • Tuesday, June 26, to the morning of Thursday, June 28 - The northbound I-5 off-ramp to Mercer Street will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly. This work is weather dependent.
  • Tuesday, June 26 & Wednesday, June 27 - The Mercer Street on-ramp to the northbound I-5 express lanes will be closed at 9 p.m. nightly. This work is weather dependent.
  • Wednesday, June 27, to the morning of Friday, June 29 - The Boeing Access Road on-ramp to northbound I-5 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly. This work is weather dependent.
  • Wednesday, June 27, to the morning of Friday, June 29 - The northbound I-5 off-ramp to Airport Way will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly. This work is weather dependent.
SB S Lucile St to Spring St Pavement Repair & ADA - #9235

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are replacing broken concrete panels, grinding and repaving southbound I-5 and the collector/distributor between Spring Street and South Lucile Street in Seattle.

Seattle Pride Parade Ramp Closure

Description: The southbound I-5 off-ramp to Union Street in Downtown Seattle is closing for the Seattle Pride Parade.

Express Lanes Entrances Electronic Sign Replacement

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are replacing the sign structures and brackets, along with the electrical and fiber optic systems at seven entrances to the I-5 express lanes. A few of the sign structures will also be redesigned to create a better viewing angle.

Downtown Seattle Deck Repair Work

Description: WSDOT bridge maintenance crews are performing deck repair work on I-5 in Downtown Seattle.
Work schedule:

  • **HIGH IMPACT** Saturday, June 23 & Sunday, June 24 - Northbound I-5 traffic will be reduced to two lanes between SR 520 and Northeast 45th Street from 2 to 10 a.m. daily. This work is weather dependent.
  • Sunday, June 24 - The Harvard Street on-ramp to northbound I-5 will be closed from 2 to 10 a.m. This work is weather dependent.
Two-Way Transit and HOV Operations (Stage 3) - #8662

Description: WSDOT and Sound Transit contractor crews are adding HOV lanes to both directions of I-90 between Seattle and Bellevue and preparing the center roadway for East Link light rail.

S Cloverdale St to Duwamish River Paving & ADA Compliance - #9239

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are repaving the roadway and replacing the ADA ramps between the sidewalk and the street at some locations, which will provide better sidewalk connections for people of all abilities

  • Monday, June 25, to the morning of Tuesday, June 26 - The left lane of northbound State Route 99 at Holden Street will be closed from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Tuesday, June 26, to the morning of Thursday, June 28 - The right lane of northbound State Route 99 between Holden Street and South Atlantic Street will be closed from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement Project

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are building a new SR 99 tunnel through downtown Seattle.

Roy St to N 145th St Paving & ADA Compliance - #9256

Description: WSDOT construction crews are grinding and repaving 7.5 miles of SR 99/Aurora Avenue North between Roy Street and North 145th Street in Seattle. Dozens of pedestrian ramps will also be rebuilt.

Aurora Bridge Painting (Stage 2) - #9168

Description: WSDOT construction crews are cleaning and repainting the Aurora Bridge. Crews are also grinding and repaving the driving surface of the bridge, and repairing seven expansion joints.
