Weekly update of construction closures in Downtown Seattle and SODO

This webpage contains information about WSDOT construction projects affecting vehicle or pedestrian traffic on I-5, SR 99, I-5/I-90 interchange, SR 519 and city streets through downtown Seattle and SODO. The information on this page could change without notice.

Regional High-Impact Closures

Seattle Marathon Closures 

Sunday, Nov. 30

  • The I-90 Center Roadway will be closed from 5 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • The northbound I-5 off-ramp to Lakeview will be fully closed 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • The westbound SR 520 off-ramp to Roanoke Ave will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

WSDOT: SR 99 Tunnel Project

  • Saturday, Dec. 6 - the morning of Sunday, Dec. 7 - All lanes of southbound SR 99 between the Battery Street Tunnel and the West Seattle Bridge will be closed from 11:59 Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday.

 

North End Closures   

Last update: 9 a.m., 11/19
WSDOT: SR 99 Tunnel Project 

  • Long-term closure - Sixth Avenue North is closed between Thomas and Republican streets for construction at the north portal of the SR 99 tunnel. Sixth Avenue North will reopen in a new configuration after the SR 99 tunnel opens to traffic.
  • Long-term closure - Harrison Street is closed from just west of Aurora Avenue to Broad Street for construction at the north portal of the SR 99 tunnel. Harrison Street will reopen after the tunnel opens to traffic.
  • Long-term closure - Republican Street is closed between Aurora Avenue North and Sixth Avenue North for construction at the north portal of the SR 99 tunnel. Republican Street will reopen after the tunnel opens to traffic.
  • Long-term closure - Parking is closed permanently on the north side of Thomas Street between Aurora Avenue North and Sixth Avenue North.

WSDOT: SR 99 North Access Project

  • Permanent closure – The sidewalk on the east side of SR 99/Aurora Avenue North is closed around the clock.
  • Until further notice
    • Dexter Avenue North is reduced to one lane in each direction around the clock between Thomas and Mercer streets. A separate bicycle lane will be maintained during peak commute hours.
    • Harrison Street is closed around the clock between SR 99 and Eighth Avenue North.
    • Westbound Republican Street will be closed around the clock between SR 99 and Dexter Avenue North. 
  • Thursday, Nov. 20 - Crews will close Dexter Avenue North between Republican and Thomas streets from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

  • Get updates  from the Seattle Department of Transportation on Mercer Corridor Project closures and construction.

Central Waterfront Closures

WSDOT: SR 99 Tunnel Project   

  • Parking beneath the viaduct is permanently closed between South King Street and Virginia Street due to tunnel and Elliott Bay Seawall construction.

Regional Closures

WSDOT: SR 520 Bridge Replacement and HOV Project

  • No high-impact closures are scheduled.

WSDOT: I-90 Two-Way Transit and HOV

  • Starting Monday, Dec. 1 - The eastbound I-90 HOV ramp to northbound Bellevue Way will be closed around-the-clock for 35 days.

Seattle Marathon Closures

  • Thursday, Nov. 27 - Friday, Nov. 28 - Express lanes will operate on a weekend schedule.

I-90 express lanes schedule changes
Get the regular express lanes schedule.      

  • Sunday, Nov. 23 - The express lanes will be open westbound from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. The lanes will open eastbound by 3 p.m.
  • Thursday, Nov. 27 - Friday, Nov. 28 - Express lanes will operate on a weekend schedule.
  • Sunday, Nov. 30 - The express lanes will be closed from 5 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
