Weekly update of construction closures in Downtown Seattle and SODO

This webpage contains information about WSDOT construction projects affecting vehicle or pedestrian traffic on I-5, SR 99, I-5/I-90 interchange, SR 519 and city streets through downtown Seattle and SODO. The information on this page could change without notice.

Regional High-Impact Closures

Last update: 9 a.m., 9/30
WSDOT: SR 99 Pavement Rehab

  • Wednesday, Oct. 1 - All southbound lanes between S. Atlantic Street and S. Spokane Street will be closed nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. The Columbia Street on-ramp to southbound SR 99 will also be closed.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 1 - Two lanes of northbound SR 99 between S. Spokane Street and S. Atlantic Street will be closed nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
  • Tuesday, Sept. 30 and Thursday, Oct. 2 - All northbound lanes between S. Spokane Street and S. Atlantic Street will be closed nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. The West Seattle Bridge on-ramp to northbound SR 99 will also be closed.
  • Tuesday, Sept. 30 and Thursday, Oct. 2 - Two of three southbound lanes between S. Atlantic Street and S. Spokane Street will be closed nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

North End Closures

WSDOT: SR 99 Tunnel Project 

  • Long-term closure - Sixth Avenue North is closed between Thomas and Republican streets for construction at the north portal of the SR 99 tunnel. Sixth Avenue North will reopen in a new configuration after the SR 99 tunnel opens to traffic.
  • Long-term closure - Harrison Street is closed from just west of Aurora Avenue to Broad Street for construction at the north portal of the SR 99 tunnel. Harrison Street will reopen after the tunnel opens to traffic.
  • Long-term closure - Republican Street is closed between Aurora Avenue North and Sixth Avenue North for construction at the north portal of the SR 99 tunnel. Republican Street will reopen after the tunnel opens to traffic.
  • Long-term closure - Parking is closed permanently on the north side of Thomas Street between Aurora Avenue North and Sixth Avenue North.

WSDOT: SR 99 North Access Project

  • Permanent closure – The sidewalk on the east side of SR 99/Aurora Avenue North is closed around the clock.
  • Until further notice
    • Dexter Avenue North is reduced to one lane in each direction around the clock between Thomas and Mercer streets. A separate bicycle lane will be maintained during peak commute hours.
    • Harrison Street is closed around the clock between SR 99 and Eighth Avenue North.
    • Westbound Republican Street will be closed around the clock between SR 99 and Dexter Avenue North.
  • Monday, Oct. 6 - Friday, Oct. 10 - Crews will reduced SR 99 to one lane between Roy and Harrison streets from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night.

Central Waterfront Closures

WSDOT: SR 99 Tunnel Project   

  • Parking beneath the viaduct is permanently closed between South King Street and Virginia Street due to tunnel and Elliott Bay Seawall construction.

  • No closures are scheduled.

Regional Closures

SR 520 Bridge Replacement and HOV Program 

  • No high-impact closures are scheduled. 

Last update: 9 a.m., 9/25
WSDOT: I-90 Two-Way Transit and HOV

  • Tuesday, Sept. 30
    • Crews will close eastbound I-90 between Rainier Avenue South and Mercer Island and shift traffic to the express lanes from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
    • Crews will close the Rainier Avenue South on-ramps to eastbound I-90 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Last update: 9 a.m., 9/25 
WSDOT: Maintenance

  • Friday, Oct. 3 to the morning of Saturday, Oct. 4
    • Crews will close eastbound I-90 between Rainier Avenue South and Mercer Island and shift traffic to the express lanes from 11:59 p.m. to 6 a.m.
    • Crews will close the Rainier Avenue South on-ramps to eastbound I-90 from 11:59 p.m. to 6 a.m.  
  • Saturday, Oct. 4 - Crews will close two southbound lanes across the First Avenue South Bridge from 6 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
