Express Lanes Schedule Changes

Description: WSDOT uses the I-90 express lanes to assist the flow of traffic during busy travel times. These lanes are scheduled to move in the direction that will relieve the most congestion from the transportation system.

Work schedule:

  • Friday, March 24, to the morning of Monday, March 27 – The eastbound I-90 express lanes will close at 10 p.m. then open westbound by 11 p.m. due to I-90 construction work. The lanes will remain westbound into the normal Monday schedule.
  • Friday, March 31, to the morning of Monday, April 3 – The eastbound I-90 express lanes will close at 10 p.m. then open westbound by 11 a.m. due to SR 520 construction work. The lanes will remain westbound into the normal Monday schedule.
Two-Way Transit and HOV Operations (Stage 3) - #8662

Description: WSDOT and Sound Transit contractor crews are adding HOV lanes to both directions of I-90 between Seattle and Bellevue and preparing the center roadway for East Link light rail.

Work schedule: 

  • Until Further Notice – Flammable cargo is prohibited from traveling in both directions of I-90 inside the Mount Baker and Mercer Island Lid tunnels until further notice.
  • **HIGH IMPACT** Friday, March 24, to the morning of Monday, March 27 – Westbound I-90 traffic will be reduced to one lane near Bellevue Way and routed to the express lanes from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.
  • Monday, March 27, to the morning of Tuesday, March 28 – The Rainier Avenue on-ramp to eastbound I-90 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Monday, March 27, to the morning of Wednesday, March 29 – Up to two lanes of eastbound I-90 inside the Mount Baker Tunnel will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
  • Monday, March 27, to the morning of Friday, March 31 – Two lanes of eastbound I-90 at West Mercer Way will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.

West Approach Bridge North - #8625

Description: The West Approach Bridge North Project is the latest phase of construction of the SR 520 Bridge Replacement and HOV Program and will extend SR 520's three westbound lanes from the new floating bridge to the Montlake area in Seattle.

  • **HIGH IMPACT** Saturday, March 25, to the morning of Sunday, March 26 - All lanes of eastbound SR 520 between Montlake Boulevard and Lake Washington Boulevard will be closed from 11:59 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • **HIGH IMPACT** Sunday, March 26, to the morning of Friday, March 31 – All lanes of eastbound SR 520 between Montlake Boulevard and Lake Washington Boulevard will be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
  • Saturday, March 25, to the morning of Friday, March 31 – The Montlake Boulevard on-ramp to eastbound SR 520 will be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
  • Monday, March 27, to the morning of Friday, March 31 – Two right lanes of westbound SR 520 on the floating bridge will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly.
Evergreen Point Floating Bridge and Landings Project - #8066

Description: The SR 520 Floating Bridge and Landings project will replace the old SR 520 floating bridge and approaches from the future west approach structure east of Foster Island in Seattle to Evergreen Point Road in Medina.

  • **HIGH IMPACT** Friday, March 31, to the morning of Monday, April 3 – All lanes in both directions of SR 520 between Montlake Boulevard and 92nd Avenue Northeast will be closed from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. This work is weather dependent.
Variable Message Sign Replacement - #8929

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are removing and replacing overhead message signs on westbound SR 520 in Bellevue.

  • **HIGH IMPACT** Monday, March 27, to the morning of Friday, March 31 – Up to two lanes of westbound SR 520 between 148th Avenue Northeast and 124th Avenue Northeast will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
Redmond Bridge Inspection Work

Description: WSDOT maintenance crews are inspecting a bridge on SR 520 in Redmond.

  • Monday, March 27 – The left lane of eastbound SR 520 at Northeast 40th Street will be closed from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
  • Monday, March 27 – The left lane of westbound SR 520 at Northeast 40th Street will be close from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
NE 124th St Vic to Tolt River Bridge Paving and ADA Compliance - #8866
