I-5

WSDOT is repaving several I-5 on and off-ramps  in this area. Ramps include: the northbound I-5 on- and off-ramps at S. 188th Street, the northbound I-5 off-ramp at Southcenter Parkway, all the ramps at S. 272nd Street and S. 272nd Street under I-5. Crews also will replace old signs, improve lighting, bring guardrail up to current safety standards and improve sidewalk accessibility.  

  • Monday, Nov. 2 - Friday, Nov. 6 - We do not expect construction to affect traffic on I-5 or the on- and off-ramps associated with this project. There may be daily shoulder closures on the ramps from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for electrical work. There may also be intermittent shoulder closures on the on- and off-ramps at S. 272nd Street nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for sidewalk work.
  • Monday, Nov. 9 - Friday, Nov. 13 - We do not expect construction to close any ramp associated with the project.  There may be shoulder closures on all ramps daily from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for electrical work.
  • Monday, Nov. 9 - the morning of Friday, Nov. 13 - Crews will intermittently close the right lane in both directions of S. 272nd Street nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for guardrail installation

We will install three travel time signs at key decision points on Interstate 5. The signs will provide real-time travel information to help drivers decide which route to take to their destinations.

We will retrofit 19 bridges on or near I-5 from central King County to South Snohomish County . Six of these bridges are in Tukwila, and 13 are located in Mountlake Terrace and Lynnwood. These retrofits will bring all 19 bridges up to current seismic standards.

Contractor crews will replace 440 concrete panels and grind down uneven pavement on both directions of I-5 and the express lanes from Boeing Access Road in Seattle to the King and Snohomish county line.

Crews will install a series of electronic speed-limit and lane status signs over each northbound lane on I-5 between Boeing Access Road and I-90 in Seattle. The new signs, expected to activate summer 2010, are the latest smarter highway technology aimed at increasing safety and reducing collisions.

  • Friday, Nov. 6 - Crews will intermittently close the right shoulder on northbound I-5 from I-405 to I-90 daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and again nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. to drill and install underground conduit.
  • Monday, Nov. 9 – Friday, Nov. 13 - Crews will close the right shoulder on northbound I-5 between the I-405 interchange and I-90 intermittently between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily to drill and install underground conduit.
  • Monday, Nov. 9 – the morning of Friday, Nov. 13 - Crews will close the right shoulder on northbound I-5 between the I-405 interchange and I-90 intermittently from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly to drill and install underground conduit.
  • Monday, Nov. 9 - Crews will close up to three lanes on southbound I-5 between SR 900 and Swift Avenue between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. Tuesday morning to drill and install underground conduit. Crews will close the HOV lane and right shoulder at 7 p.m., a second adjacent lane at 8 p.m. and the third adjacent lane at 10 p.m. Please watch for crews working near the road and expect minor delays.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 10 - Crews will close up to two lanes on southbound I-5 from SR 900 to Swift Avenue between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Wednesday morning to drill and install underground conduit. Crews will close the first right lane at 8 p.m. and a second adjacent lane at 9:30 p.m. Please watch for crews working near the road and expect minor delays.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 10 – the morning of Thursday, Nov. 12 - Crews will close the HOV lane and right shoulder on northbound I-5 from S 107th Street to Swift Avenue from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly to drill and install underground conduit. Please watch for crews working near the road and expect minor delays.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 10 – the morning of Friday, Nov. 13 - Crews will close the right lane and left shoulder of northbound I-5 from Boeing Access Road to Albro Place from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly to drill and install underground conduit. I-5 express lanes schedule changes

WSDOT typically operates the I-5 express lanes during the weekdays in the southbound direction from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. and northbound from noon to 11 p.m. The weekend schedule operates southbound from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and northbound from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m.  

  • Saturday, Nov. 7 - Due to work on the southbound I-5 mainline between Yale Avenue and Union Street, the express lanes will remain in the southbound direction from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8.
  • Sunday, November 8th - the morning of Friday, Nov. 13 -Due to construction, the express lanes will be open southbound each night. The lanes will be reversed from north to south at 9 p.m. each day. At 4 a.m. each day, the lanes will close and reverse to southbound by 5 a.m.

I-5: Ship Canal bridge maintenance work

WSDOT crews will perform maintenance work on the I-5 Ship Canal bridge, replacing portions of the glare screen between the north and southbound lanes.

  • Sunday, Nov. 8 - Crews will close the left lane of northbound I-5 over the Ship Canal Bridge from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. for maintenance work.

I-5 5th Avenue NE to 92nd Street Noise Wall - Eastside - Stage 2, #7798

We are building a series of noise walls along I-5 in Seattle's Green Lake and Licton Springs neighborhoods. We completed the first stage of the project when we installed three noise walls on the west side of the freeway. The second stage will build another wall on the east side of the freeway.

WSDOT crews will install a series of electronic speed-limit and lane status signs over each lane on the SR 520 and I-90 bridges over Lake Washington. On SR 520, there are 19 sign locations between I-5 and 130th Ave NE in Bellevue. This includes new sign bridges and signs that will be mounted on existing structures. On I-90, there are 25 sign locations between I-5 and 150th Avenue SE. This also includes new sign bridges and signs that will be mounted on existing structures.  

  • Monday, Nov. 9 - Friday, Nov. 13 - We do not expect construction to affect traffic on I-5 this week. 
  • There may also be closures on SR 520 and I-90.

Crews will strengthen the columns, girders and crossbeams of the double-decked overpass that carries I-90 traffic over I-5 in Seattle and the nearby 12th Avenue S. bridge. .

I-5/I-90: bridge overpass inspection

WSDOT bridge inspection crews will examine the underside the bus ramp from Dearborn Avenue to I-90 where it crosses over all lanes of I-5.
This weekend, crews will examine the portion of the overpass above the northbound lanes of the freeway.

  • Sunday, Nov. 8 - Crews will close the three left lanes of northbound I-5 beginning at 6:30 a.m. By 8 a.m. 2 lanes will be blocked and by 9 a.m., one left lane will be blocked. At 9:30 a.m., crews will close the right northbound lane to complete their inspection. All lanes will reopen by 10:30 a.m.

Sound Transit crews are preparing the ground under I-5 for the tunnel boring machine that will be used to construct the light-rail tunnel extension from downtown Seattle to the University of Washington campus.  

  • Saturday, Nov. 7- Crews will close the on-ramp from Yale Avenue to southbound I-5 and one lane of southbound I-5 between Yale Avenue and Union Street from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. for construction work.
  • Monday, Nov. 9 - Friday, Nov. 13 - We do not expect construction to affect traffic this week.
  • Until May 2010 - The Olive Way off-ramp from northbound I-5 is closed.
  • Until June 2010 - The Pike/Pine reversible HOV ramp from the I-5 express lanes is closed.


I-90

I-90 Express Lane Schedule
The express lanes operate on a schedule to assist the flow of traffic during busy travel times. These lanes are scheduled to move in the direction that will relieve the most congestion from the transportation system. We operate the lanes on a typical daily schedule that changes on the weekends and occasionally for major events.

  • Monday, Nov. 9 - Thursday, Nov. 12 - Crews will close the shoulders of both north and southbound West Lake Sammamish Parkway for fence installation. The northbound shoulder will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The southbound shoulder will be closed from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. 
  • Monday, Nov. 9 - the morning of Friday, Nov. 13 - Crews will close the I-90 eastbound collector-distributor lane at 148th Avenue SE nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for installation of crossing-framing steel in the highway median.

SR 18

SR 18: Green River flooding preparation work

Centerline rumble strips are a proven low-cost method of dramatically reducing cross-over collisions by alerting inattentive drivers when they are crossing into oncoming traffic. This project will install rumble strips on various two-lane state routes throughout Washington State.

  • Monday, Nov. 9 - Friday, Nov. 13 - Crews will alternate traffic using pilot cars on SR 164 between Enumclaw and Kersey Way/R Street, daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for centerline striping.This work is weather-dependent. 

SR 167

We have added a northbound high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane between 15th Street SW and 15th Street NW in Auburn. This will increase freeway capacity and improve traffic flow.

SR 167: Road work in Kent for Green River flooding preparation

Crews will close one of two lanes on SR 167, shoring up a small section of the state route to ensure it stays open to traffic if the Green River tops its banks in South King County. 

  • Friday, Nov. 6 - the morning of Saturday, Nov. 7 - Crews will close the right lane of both north and southbound SR 167 at  277th Street. The northbound lane will be closed from 9:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. The southbound lane will be closed from 10:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
  • Saturday, Nov. 7 - the morning of Sunday, Nov. 8 - Crews will close the right lane of both north and southbound SR 167 at 277th Street. The northbound lane will close from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. The southbound lane will close from 10:30 p.m. to 9 a.m.
  • Monday, Nov. 9 - Crews will close the right lane of southbound SR 167 between SR 516 and S. 277th Street from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. to complete sandbag installation. 

 

SR 181

SR 181: Riverbank reinforcement for possible flooding along the Green River

The city of Tukwila is reinforcing the river bank on the West Valley Highway near the Green River in preparation for possible flooding this winter.

  • Sunday, Nov. 8 - the morning of Friday, Nov. 13 - Crews will close lanes on north and southbound SR 181 (West Valley Highway) nightly from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. At least one lane will remain open in each direction at all times.
     

 

SR 202

SR 202: City of Woodinville Improvements

The city of Woodinville is building three new roundabouts along SR 202, in-lieu of traffic signals. The major portions of construction are scheduled to be complete by fall 2009 with remaining work to be completed in the spring of 2010.

  • Monday, Nov. 2 - Friday, Nov. 6 - Crews will close lanes on SR 202 at NE 145th/148th Avenue NE for paving work, daily from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for paving work, weather permitting.

  • Monday, Nov. 9 - the morning of Friday, Nov. 13 - Crews will close the eastbound SR 520 off ramp to SR 202 nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for construction work.
  • Thursday, Nov. 12 - Crews will close up multiples lanes in both directions of SR 202 between NE 76th Street and the SR 520 off-ramp. Lane closures begin at 7 p.m.  All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13. At least one lane of travel in each direction will be maintained. 
  • Monday, Nov. 9 - Friday, Nov. 20 - Crews will close the eastbound SR 202 ramp to westbound SR 520 daily from 10 a.m. 4:30 p.m.
  • There may also be closures on SR 520 

I-405

I-405: Renton Widening (I-5 to SR 167), -Stage 1 #7295

WSDOT is partnering with the city of Bellevue to build a new freeway bridge at NE 10th Street in Bellevue. The NE 10th Street Bridge will be built in two stages. The city of Bellevue will construct the first stage. WSDOT will construct the bridge over I-405 in the second stage.

This project is located on SR 410, 13 miles east of Enumclaw. This project will repair previous flood damage in Clay Creek by placing boulders of various sizes in the stream channel along with stream sediment to return the section of Clay Creek to a pre-flood condition and protect against further erosion.

We're working to make improvements to the FB Hoit and Joes Creek bridges. We will place erosion control and wetland protection, remove old paint and paint both bridges. The Joes Creek Bridge will be under renovation from mid-July to mid-September. The FB Hoit Bridge will be under renovation between mid-September to mid-February 2010.

WSDOT crews will install a series of electronic speed-limit and lane status signs over each lane on the SR 520 and I-90 bridges over Lake Washington. On SR 520, there are 19 sign locations between I-5 and 130th Ave NE in Bellevue. This includes new sign bridges and signs that will be mounted on existing structures. On I-90, there are 25 sign locations between I-5 and 150th Avenue SE. This also includes new sign bridges and signs that will be mounted on existing structures.  

  • Monday, Nov. 9 - the morning of Friday Nov. 13 - Crews will intermittently close up to two lanes in both directions of SR 520 between 76th Avenue NE and 116th Avenue NE nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. to drill shafts for placement of sign bridge bases.

SR 520: Evergreen Point Floating Bridge maintenance closure

WSDOT bridge crews will perform its monthly maintenance openings of the SR 520 Bridge.  During the work, crews will intermittently open the drawspan to ensure it is in good working order. Drivers should anticipate delays of up to 30 minutes.

SR 520: Test Pile and Noise Abatement Study

The SR 520 Bridge Replacement and HOV Program will enhance safety by replacing the aging floating bridge and keep the region moving with vital transit and roadway improvements throughout the corridor. During this work, crews will use a combination of vibratory and impact hammers to install a total of nine steel test piles at three locations in Lake Washington and Portage Bay. The pile driving at each location will last for two to three days, followed by several days of load testing and monitoring. The study will allow crews to test soil conditions on the lake bottom, monitor underwater and airborne noise, and evaluate potential noise reduction methods.
