9:00 a.m., 11/20
I-5 Cable median barrier
Milepost 250-255
Chris Damitio, Project Engineer, 360-788-7400

Crews will replace the existing three-strand, low-tension cable median barrier between Fairhaven Parkway (exit 250) and Sunset Drive (exit 255) with four-strand, high-tension cable barrier.  The additional fourth strand of cable expands the barrier's range and will further reduce the potential for vehicles to cross over or under the median barrier.

  • Lane closure 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Nov. 23-24: Crews will close the left lane of north and southbound I-5 to install posts for the new cable barrier. Drivers should expect minor delays.

9 a.m. 11/20
I-5: SR 532 to Starbird Road pavement repair
Mileposts 213-219
Dave Crisman, Project Engineer, 360-848-7103

We will repair and replace cracked and broken concrete pavement along six miles in the right lane of southbound I-5 between State Route 532 and Starbird Road, near the Skagit/Snohomish county line.

  • Construction suspended until spring 2010.

9 a.m. 11/20
SR 9: Pedestrian/Bicycle improvements (Sedro-Woolley)
Mileposts 57.1-57.7
Contact: Mark Freiberger, city of Sedro-Woolley 360-855-0771

Crews with the city of Sedro-Woolley will construct sidewalks and add curb, gutter and drainage along a stretch of SR 9 north of the city.

  • Lane closures/shifts 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 23-24: Crews may shift lanes and intermittently close one lane so crews can work near the road. Flaggers will direct traffic through the area.

9 a.m. 11/20
SR 9: Martin Road to Thunder Creek
Mileposts 62.6-63.4

We will straighten the road and widen the lanes and shoulders to improve safety between Martin Road and Thunder Creek. We will also improve the Martin Road intersection at SR 9.

  • Single-lane closure Nov. 23-25: Crews will close one lane from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, and 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday to complete project cleanup and roadside planting. Minor delays are expected.

9 a.m., 11/20
SR 20: Fredonia to I-5 stage 2
Milepost: 55.05-59.85
Dave Crisman, Project Engineer, 360-428-1593

We are just completing this project which widened approximately five miles of State Route 20 from two to four lanes between State Route 536 (Memorial Highway) and Interstate 5 in Burlington. In addition, we improved the on- and off-ramps at the SR 20/I-5 interchange.

  • Nighttime lane closure 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Nov. 23, 24: Crews will close the eastbound right lane near the SR 536 intersection to install a weather station.

9 a.m. 11/20
SR 20: Rumblestrip Project statewide (Northwest)
Various mileposts
Contact: Dave Lindberg , Project Engineer, 425-814-7104

This project will install rumble strips on various two-lane state routes throughout Washington State. Centerline rumble strips are a proven low-cost method of dramatically reducing cross-over collisions by alerting inattentive drivers when they are crossing into oncoming traffic.

  • Moving lane closures 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, between Oak Harbor and Coupeville: This is a moving operation. Crews will close lanes as necessary to grind rumble strips into the highway and repaint centerlines. This work is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled if necessary.

9 a.m., 11/20
SR 20: Quiet Cove Road to SR 20 Spur, Stage 2, #7532
Milepost: 45.05 to 47.87
Dave Crisman, Project Engineer, 360-428-1593

We will widen and realign State Route 20 between South Lake Campbell Road and the Miller/Gibraltar Road intersection. We will also add turn lanes and make other intersection improvements. Changes along this section of highway should reduce crashes and improve traffic flow south of Anacortes.

  • Expect to see crews working along the shoulders during the day near Miller and Campbell Lake roads to install signs, fence and mailboxes, and complete miscellaneous cleanup tasks. This work is off the road and should not impact traffic.

9 a.m. 11/20
SR 20: Fruitdale/McGarigle road improvements

Contact: Mark Freiberger, city of Sedro-Woolley 360-855-0771

  • Crews will complete miscellaneous tasks off the road this week.

9 a.m. 11/13
SR 542: Britton to Coal Creek paving
Milepost 2.79-19.27
Mark Hammer, Project Engineer, 360-757-5832

We will resurface 17 miles of Mount Baker Highway, from Britton Road to Coal Creek Bridge. We will also resurface a half-mile of SR 9, from SR 542 to Smith Creek Bridge. We use a process known as Hot In-Place asphalt paving that heats, loosens, removes, mixes, lays down and compacts the asphalt in one swoop.
