- The road to Artist Point is open, but work on SR 542, the Mount Baker Highway, will limit access this week. Through Friday, Oct. 24, both directions of SR 542 will be closed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. about 12 miles east of Glacier for hazardous tree removal. If you want to go to Artist Point this week, you need to be there by 8 a.m., and you will not be able to leave until after 4 p.m. Emergency vehicles will have access at all times. The road will be open until the first significant snowfall. There is a lot of precipitation in the forecast this week, and by mid to late week lows at the Mount Baker Ski Area are expected to be in the low 30s. Artist Point is a bit higher, so watch the weather! When the road to Artist Point closes for the winter, this page will be updated as soon as possible.
